Unlike almost everything else on this site, it has no primary source to cite. It began as a fan's entry in a storyline contest run by a fan site, which writer Greg Farshtey then declared canon, and it has never appeared in a published BIONICLE book, comic, film, serial or game.
Function#
As the contest entry describes it, the rock is thrown or catapulted at a target and explodes on impact, splattering the target with the protodermis inside, which then forms a cage. Each rock holds only a small amount, so the cage normally lasts no more than an hour. The name comes from the strange, eccentric shapes the cages always take. This is a writer-endorsed fan description, not a scene from any story.
Users and variants#
The same entry describes the Eccentric Boulder, a larger version that holds more protodermis and so traps its target for longer, and which has to be launched rather than thrown. Nothing in the published story shows either weapon in use, so claims about who used them, such as the Archives' Rahi collectors, aren't supported and have been removed from this page.
