It began as a fan entry in a BZPower story contest, which Greg Farshtey later accepted into canon, and only its function was accepted; it does not appear in any of the published books, comics or serials. Function#
The Griffin Gauntlet was worn over the hand and required the wielder to touch the target. When its talons made contact, they created a matrix that encased the victim in a ring of crystal-like protodermis. The crystals then increased the pressure of the ring until the trapped being was crushed. The entry presents it as a weapon that could be used even against a foe as powerful as a MakutaMakuta (Species)Shadowy Antidermis beings and the Brotherhood's elite, Makuta commanded darkness and shaped the Matoran Universe's fate., and links its making to XiaXiaA hostile island southeast of Metru Nui, home to the Vortixx and their brutal mercenary culture..
