Its origins trace back to the arrival of the Toa Metru on Mata Nui, who, after their battles, split up to find places to build villages and left the Matoran spheres on the sands of what would one day become Ga-Koro. Nokama stayed behind, having already found the perfect place for the village where they had landed.
The village was the site of Gali's early days on the island. Upon emerging, the Toa of Water was greeted by a villager named Maku and led to Ga-Koro, where Turaga Nokama informed her about the Masks of Power.
During the events recorded in the Mata Nui Online Game, Ga-Koro was left strangely deserted, its Ga-Matoran and Nokama imprisoned in a sunken hut beneath the waves. By raising the hut from the water, the villagers were freed. When the Bohrok swarms later threatened the island, Ga-Koro served as a refuge: Po-Matoran such as Ally evacuated there after the Tahnok swarms overwhelmed Po-Koro.
Ga-Koro was also a place where the tales of the Toa were told. Turaga Nokama shared the stories of the Toa Mata with the Matoran around the fire in Ga-Koro, recounting how Mata Nui was once a paradise before Teridax brought darkness and fear. In the kolhii tournament held at Ta-Koro, the Ga-Koro team of Hahli and Macku emerged victorious.
