They existed for one purpose: to serve the hive, and nothing else.

Va exemplify early BIONICLEBIONICLE: Matoran AdventuresA 2002 GBA platformer where you play as one of six Matoran fighting Bohrok across Mata Nui's islands.'s approach to ecological world-building. The swarms weren't random collections of identical enemies meant to fill out combat scenes. Each swarm had a complete social structure: queens, workers, soldiers, and drones, all with distinct roles. The Va units were the drones, the expendable support caste. They never earned character development or plot-advancing special abilities. They served their colony, which was exactly what their design intended, and that simplicity became part of what made them effective creatures in the broader narrative.
