Design and Function#
The trap's simplicity is part of its cunning. It's not designed to kill. It's meant to immobilize, to hold a creature long enough for the Guard to respond and contain the threat. The mechanism relies on basic physics. The weight triggers a release. Spikes shoot up. The speed and height of the spikes create a makeshift cage that can hold most infected creatures long enough for the Guard to approach. The trap's most famous moment came when it caught the wrong target entirely. The Guard had no frame of reference for what a Toa looked like in the flesh. A living wall of armor and attitude walked into their forest, and their first instinct was to trap it.
