A weapon of illusion#
The Twilight Blade took its name not from any elemental power but from two tricks of light, each of which gave a false impression of what the sword could do. The first arose in bright conditions. With sufficient skill, and only when the blade was swung, its reflective, mirror-like surface could throw natural light directly into an opponent's eyes, causing a temporary blindness that looked for all the world like the work of a light power.
The second arose in low light. There, again only when swung, the blade's unusual properties caused it to appear almost invisible, making it hard for a foe to follow and giving the impression of a shadow power, although a keen-eyed opponent could still track it.
Rarity#
Both effects depended on the wielder's skill, on the amount of light in the surroundings, and on the blade being in motion. Those conditions, taken together, meant the weapon was useless to an unpractised hand and unreliable in the wrong setting.
