Command Center of the USG Ishimura

The Bridge of the USG Ishimura was the command and control center of the Planet Cracker, a large open section at the front of the ship from which its crew ran the vessel and its mining operations. By the outbreak its displays read only System Failure.

The Bridge of the USG Ishimura was the command and control center of the entire Planet Cracker, a large open-plan section at the front of the ship from which the crew ran the vessel and its mining work. Isaac Clarke passed through it extensively during the Aegis VII outbreak, by which time its systems had failed and its displays glowed red with warnings.

Layout and function#

The Bridge was a large, open-plan section made up of several areas: the Atrium, the Captain's Nest, the Administration, the Ship Systems and Communications, and the External Access. The various sections were served by elevators reached from the Atrium, and its control stations were largely holographic, with holographic screens present throughout. By the time Isaac Clarke entered the main Atrium, all the displays read System Failure and were red in color. The Bridge's Tram Station was more luxurious than the others on the ship, bearing large inscriptions in tribute to the Ishimura, and it connected to the Medical Deck's Cryogenics Lab and Computer Core.

The main Atrium was the primary area, a wide open space lined with terminals where the crew monitored and controlled the ship and its systems. A walkway at the front led to the Captain's Nest, and an elevator at the center reached the Communications and Mining Administration sections. Access to the Atrium from elsewhere on the ship was possible only through a security checkpoint at the Tram Station, beyond which lay an entrance to the Crew Deck. At one of the workstations was security footage of Nicole Brennan complaining to Captain Benjamin Mathius about Challus Mercer and his inhuman treatment of the patient Brant Harris, a complaint the Captain dismissed, accusing her of a vendetta and of turning people away from Unitology.

The Captain's Nest and Administration#

The Captain's Nest was a restricted area, open only to officers holding the rank of level 5. It served as the Captain's personal office and observatory, was equipped with executive override controls in the event of a mutiny, and held a large holoprojector that showed a real time image of the Aegis VII mining operation. Escape Pods were located just outside it. Near the Tram Station stood the Bridge Security Room, where visitors underwent mandatory scanning, fitted with a one way mirror and the controls for the Atrium's elevators, and beside it an armory stocked with riot gear and Pulse Rifles in case of mutiny among the crew.

The Mining Administration was the brain behind the ship's brawn. Its main room directed and planned the Ishimura's mining operations, sending commands to and from the mining teams, while a Records Office held the saved logs of operations across the ship's years of service. A linked computer room formed the primary processing core for the Administration's banks, tied into the ship's larger Computer Core, and adjoining rooms housed the IT and coolant teams and the ship's main electrical fuses.

Communications and Ship Systems#

The lower portion of the Bridge held the Ship Systems and Communications. A break room here, meant for the crew's rest with seating and a large screen, had by the time of Isaac's visit been turned by Unitologists among the crew into a small chapel, fitted with lanterns, a circle marked on the floor, and the Marker from Aegis VII shown on its screen, a sight that unsettled both Isaac and Kendra Daniels. The Electrical Systems rooms held the appliances and cabling that kept the ship's power running, and by the outbreak they had become hazardous, wracked by surges from overloaded cables and damage where an asteroid had struck.

The Communications section, in the lowest part of the Bridge, handled contact with other ships. A Comms Control Room with holograms and stations sent and received calls, looking out through glass panels onto the chamber of the Communications Array, a large circular hall of smaller arrays. A long access hall connected the control room to a maintenance gondola that led out to the exterior of the ship, where the long range antenna hull stood. The deepest level held the Water Purification systems, an EVA Prep Room, and the External Access leading outside the hull.
