Kendra Daniels
Undercover EarthGov Agent
Kendra Daniels was an EarthGov agent posing as a CEC computer specialist aboard the USG Kellion, who guided Isaac Clarke through the Ishimura while working in secret to secure Marker 3A for the government.
Kendra Daniels was an EarthGov agent working undercover as a Concordance Extraction Corporation computer specialist aboard the USG Kellion, part of the emergency team sent to the stricken USG Ishimura in 2508. Stranded on the ship after the Necromorph outbreak, she guided the engineer Isaac Clarke through its decks while pursuing her own secret objective: to secure Marker 3A and deliver it to the government.
A planted agent#
Little is known of Kendra's life before Aegis VII beyond that she became an EarthGov agent at some point and had previously done contract work for the CEC. When Security Chief Zach Hammond requested background information on her, none was forthcoming. She was inserted into the Kellion's crew on the persistent recommendation of a contact within the CEC, but her true purpose was to recover Marker 3A and bring it to EarthGov, with the military vessel USM Valor dispatched to assist her and contain the outbreak.
For all her contract history, Kendra harbored a deep disdain for corporate culture and preferred to work on her own terms. She was a skilled liar and manipulator, and no one aboard suspected her allegiance until her betrayal.
Aboard the Ishimura#
After the Kellion crashed and was destroyed in the Necromorph attack, Kendra retreated with Hammond and took refuge in the ship's Computer Core. From there she barricaded herself in and used her command of the Ishimura's systems to assist Isaac and Hammond, overriding doors and lockdowns and pulling up the records that exposed the truth of the vessel's infestation. She argued that the Ishimura had recovered the Marker because that was what it had been sent to do all along, noting that the government had sealed off the planet, and she frequently voiced distrust of Hammond, suspecting he knew more about the artifact than he admitted.
The Marker's signal touched even Kendra. During Isaac's work in Hydroponics she was disturbed to see her dead younger brother, Kieran, on the security monitors, insisting it should not have been possible. Though the visions unsettled her, she proved unusually resistant to the artifact's influence, suffering only fleeting hallucinations rather than the deep dementia that gripped Isaac and others.
Betrayal on the shuttle#
When Terrence Kyne proposed returning the Marker to Aegis VII, Kendra distrusted the plan, aware the doctor had fallen under the artifact's sway. She nonetheless arranged to meet Kyne and travel with him to the hangar bay, and once Isaac arrived she shot Kyne dead and claimed the executive shuttle and the Marker for herself. She then revealed her true nature as an EarthGov agent and explained the artifact's origin, telling Isaac she could not risk Kyne near the Marker and that the government was best equipped to contain it. Bidding him farewell, she expected the resourceful engineer to find his own way off the ship.
Isaac instead recalled the shuttle to the Ishimura, forcing Kendra to flee in an escape pod that crash-landed near the colony on Aegis VII. Stranded but undeterred, she waited as Isaac returned the Marker to its pedestal, then took what he believed was Nicole Brennan hostage. She overrode his suit to make him watch the whole of Nicole's final message, revealing that Nicole had killed herself before the Kellion ever arrived and that the woman in Kendra's grip was in fact the scientist Elizabeth Cross, deluded by the Marker much as Isaac had been. When Cross refused to cooperate and begged to be shot, Kendra killed her and took the Marker, telling Isaac it was better this way, for none of them would recover from the blueprints the artifact had implanted in their minds.
Death and motives#
As Kendra prepared to load the Marker onto the shuttle, Isaac confronted her one final time, and she held him at gunpoint, warning him to come no closer. Falling debris from the Ishimura's dropping payload struck near him and sent him to the ground, giving her the chance to escape, but before she could board, the emerging Hive Mind lashed out with a tentacle that knocked her from the loading platform. Isaac reached for her, telling her to take his hand, but she was too weak, and the creature crushed her into the ground before he could pull her free.
Kendra believed throughout that securing the Marker for EarthGov was the right course, having seen firsthand what it could do in the wrong hands. She killed Kyne and Cross and abandoned Isaac convinced that the three of them, their minds touched by the artifact, would never recover and would themselves be a threat. Yet she was not without conscience: terrified of the Necromorphs and shaken by the visions of her brother, she hesitated to shoot Isaac when she could have, and in her last moments she begged him to save her from the Hive Mind.
