Self-proclaimed Prophet of the Brethren Moons

By Joe Garratt

The Cult Leader was a member of the militant Unitologist sect known as the Circle who proclaimed himself the Prophet of a new cult that formed aboard the CMS Terra Nova. After the fall of Tau Volantis, he set himself up as the voice of the Brethren Moons, and he became the chief human adversary of Isaac Clarke and John Carver as the two struggled to leave the ship and warn Earth.

Forming the cult#

After the death of Jacob Danik and the destruction of the Tau Volantis Moon, the surviving Unitologists of the Circle seemed to be contacted by the Brethren Moons, which prompted a mass recall of the survivors from the planet up to the CMS Terra Nova in orbit. There a group of Unitologists splintered off to form a new Church, one they declared was made "not of brick and mortar, but of flesh and blood," in the belief that the Moons were coming and were "hungry." One man among them took up the role of leader and prophet of this new cult. He and the other survivors began to ritually mutilate themselves, sawing off body parts as offerings to the approaching Moons.

The voice of the Moons#

When Isaac Clarke and John Carver reached the Terra Nova, they were assailed by a series of hallucinations in which they saw the Prophet carving the hands from a man, and repeating the act throughout the ship. The Prophet seemed to act as the voice of the Moons, taunting Isaac through these visions and stoking his doubt over whether he and Carver should try to return home at all, which set the two men arguing. Within the hallucinations the Prophet displayed abilities that defied ordinary harm, appearing immune to injury and able to move from place to place at will.

Defeat#

After Isaac and Carver recovered the ShockPoint Drive, Isaac resolved to reach the reactor of the Terra Nova and destroy it, convinced that it was the only way to protect Earth from the Moons. In a final hallucination, the two discovered that the Prophet could be harmed only if they destroyed the Red Markers that appeared within the vision. After destroying three of the Markers and striking the Cult Leader, their connection to the Moons was broken. The Moons warned the two men that their chance to warn the Earth had already passed.

When the hallucination ended, Isaac and Carver stood over the defeated and wounded Prophet, who continued to rant. He declared that the Moons would still find Earth and that everyone would be "made whole." His words came to pass regardless of what was done with him.
