USM Intrepid
The EarthGov Shuttle Lost Recovering Marker 3A
The USM Intrepid was an Earth Defense Force shuttle sent after the Second Aegis VII Incident to recover Marker 3A from the USG Ishimura. Lured into an infested cargo bay by a deception, its crew was wiped out by the Necromorphs aboard.
The USM Intrepid was an Earth Defense Force shuttle captained by Captain Amise, sent after the Second Aegis VII Incident to recover Marker 3A aboard the drifting USG Ishimura. It reached the lost mining ship but was drawn into a trap, and its crew did not survive the boarding.
Service record#
After Julia Copland of the Magpies arrived at the USM Victory, Defense Secretary David Chang ordered a small ship sent to the origin vector of her vessel in the asteroid belt, hoping to locate the USG Ishimura. The USM Intrepid was dispatched with a small security team of several Marines under Captain Amise. At the same time the Oracles, having pieced together the exact coordinates of the Ishimura from Julia, reached the ship ahead of the Intrepid aboard a Planet Cracker and landed undetected.
When the Intrepid arrived at the Ishimura, it was hailed by Stefan Schneider, who led the crew to believe he held the Marker and wished to make a deal. He persuaded them to set down in Cargo Bay 4 on Level 5, though in truth he was on the ship's bridge and could see from the cameras that the bay was infested with Necromorphs. The Oracles recognized the trap at once. One intended to warn the Intrepid, but the other refused, reasoning that the deaths of the Marines would buy them the time to reach the bridge before Schneider could leave.
The trap and loss#
The USM Intrepid landed, and the troops and Captain Amise disembarked into a cargo bay that appeared deserted. As they dispersed, the Necromorphs fell upon them and slaughtered the Marines. Only Amise managed to fight his way back to the shuttle. He ordered the pilot to take off, only to find him already killed by a Slasher, which then killed the captain where he stood. With no one left to fly it, the Intrepid was left sitting in the cargo bay, presumably until the Ishimura was cleared of Necromorphs and brought back to Titan Station. The shuttle was capable of vertical take-off and landing.

Aegis VII
Aegis VII was a remote, metal-rich planet in the Cygnus system used by the Sovereign Colonies as a secret test site for Marker 3A. Two Necromorph outbreaks scarred the world, and after Isaac Clarke returned the Marker to its pedestal in 2508 the planet broke apart entirely.

Marker 3A
Marker 3A was a Red Marker grown by the Sovereign Colonies at the end of the 23rd century and placed on Aegis VII for study. Two centuries later it was unearthed by the Concordance Extraction Corporation, triggering the outbreak aboard the USG Ishimura and imprinting its blueprints into Isaac Clarke''s mind.
Marker
Markers were enigmatic double-helix obelisks that broadcast a signal capable of reanimating the dead, driving the living to madness, and seeding their own replication. Their purpose was to spread the Necromorph infection across intelligent civilizations until a Convergence Event could form a Brethren Moon.
Necromorph
Necromorphs were aggressive creatures formed when the Markers' electromagnetic signal reshaped dead tissue into monstrous new forms. Driven to kill the living and gather corpses for Convergence, they were the recurring plague that destroyed the Aegis VII colony, the USG Ishimura, and Titan Station.
