The USM Eudora was an Earth Defense Force Special Ops vessel captained by Robert Norton. Much smaller but more advanced than the heavy Destroyers of the fleet, it was sent to find Isaac Clarke during the Unitologist uprising on the New Horizons Lunar Colony and carried him toward Tau Volantis. The ship did not survive the journey, torn apart by automated mines in the debris field surrounding the frozen world.

The search for Isaac Clarke#

The Eudora was tasked with finding Isaac Clarke on the New Horizons Lunar Colony, its crew intent on reaching him before Jacob Danik and the other Unitologists aligned with the Circle could kill him in the uprising. The ship caught up with Isaac as he escaped the city aboard a train, fended off two Unitologist gunships pursuing the train, then picked Isaac up and shocked away from the Moon.

Following a successful blind shock to Tau Volantis, the Eudora was almost struck by the debris ringing the planet, but its pilot, Mark Rosen, maneuvered clear of it. As the crew attempted to locate Ellie Langford's ship, the Eudora was attacked by the automated mines guarding the world. The bridge was severely damaged and the ship began to fall apart. After the Eudora lost power, Isaac Clarke ventured through the collapsing vessel to reach an EVA suit and helped the rest of the crew jettison from the crumbling craft into the debris field, making for the CMS Roanoke as the Eudora exploded behind them.

Design and capabilities#

The Eudora's design consisted of a large H-shaped bow section that drew back into a hunched mid-section, with three sets of thrusters mounted off the aft of the ship. Two of those thrusters could pivot downward to give the vessel a vertical take-off and landing capability while it maintained forward flight, and these adjustable verniers also allowed it to hold a hover when needed.

Its weapon systems consisted of light batteries that fired what appeared to be concentrated balls of green plasma, powerful enough to destroy a Unitologist dropship in a single shot. Those batteries were vulnerable to fire, however, and were knocked out by a Unitologist dropship during the engagement over the New Horizons Lunar Colony. The Eudora also carried heavier munitions for use against larger ships and structures, demonstrated when it destroyed the massive Ptolemy Station.

Much smaller, but also more technologically advanced, than Destroyers such as the USM Valor and the USM Abraxis, the Eudora had four known sections: a command bridge, a living area and crew quarters of bunks and tables, a sanitation area with showers and lockers, and a large room with a ramp mechanism apparently sized to carry cargo. The ship was fitted with an automated voice warning function and numerous life-preservation devices throughout the interior, along with a dedicated escape module. That module, a large cubic compartment, was launched manually by Isaac Clarke and used by Rosen and Locke to reach the CMS Roanoke when the ship was lost. Unlike the USG Kellion, the Eudora did not appear to carry blast shields.

Frequently asked questions

What was the USM Eudora in Dead Space?
The USM Eudora was an Earth Defense Force Special Ops vessel captained by Robert Norton. Much smaller but more advanced than Destroyers such as the USM Valor, it was sent to find Isaac Clarke during the Unitologist uprising on the New Horizons Lunar Colony.
What was the USM Eudora's mission?
The Eudora was tasked with finding Isaac Clarke on the New Horizons Lunar Colony and reaching him before Jacob Danik and the Circle could kill him in the uprising. It caught up with Isaac as he fled the city by train, fended off two Unitologist gunships, picked him up, and shocked away from the Moon.
How was the USM Eudora destroyed?
After a blind shock to Tau Volantis, the Eudora narrowly avoided the planet's debris and was then attacked by automated mines. The bridge was severely damaged and the ship began to fall apart. Isaac ventured through the collapsing craft to reach an EVA suit and helped the crew jettison into the debris field toward the CMS Roanoke as the Eudora exploded.
How was the USM Eudora different from a Destroyer?
The Eudora was much smaller than Destroyers such as the USM Valor and USM Abraxis but also more technologically advanced. Its three sets of thrusters included two that could pivot downward for vertical take-off and landing while maintaining forward flight, and it carried a dedicated escape module rather than the heavy armament of a warship.
