Kolhar
the Spacefolder shipyard world
Kolhar was a cold, barren world near the Rossak system that Norma Cenva transformed into the manufacturing center for the first spacefolder vessels. Decades after the Butlerian Jihad it was reduced to a radioactive wasteland by Manford Torondo's atomics.
Kolhar was a cold and largely barren world located near the Rossak system, sitting on the trade routes that ran from Ginaz. Though uninhabited and carrying only a minimal human population before the Butlerian Jihad, its environment was viable for human life. It became significant when Norma Cenva made it the cradle of foldspace travel, building there the manufacturing center for the first spacefolder vessels that would eventually carry the commerce of the Spacing Guild.
Geography and early state#
Kolhar lay near the Rossak system and along the trade routes running from Ginaz, a position that later made it convenient as an industrial hub. The world was cold and largely barren, and for most of its early history it was effectively uninhabited. Despite the harshness of its surface, its environment was viable for human beings, which allowed it to support the industry that would later be raised upon it.
Norma Cenva and the spacefolders#
After her torment and transformation, Norma Cenva used the ship of Xerxes to transport herself to Kolhar. From the world she left a telepathic signal and summoned her mother, Zufa Cenva, to join her there. With a population that had been minimal before the Butlerian Jihad, the world was quickly remade under Norma Cenva's direction into the manufacturing center for spacefolder space vessels, the craft that pioneered travel through folded space.
Destruction#
Near the end of Josef Venport's conflict with Manford Torondo's Butlerians, roughly eight decades after the end of the Jihad, Torondo obtained a cache of forbidden atomics. He used them to turn Kolhar into a radioactive wasteland. Venport himself survived, along with all of the Navigators present on the world, but most of his employees and much of his industrial infrastructure were lost in the attack.
