The results explained#

House Atreides#

House Atreides held Caladan for twenty generations before Emperor Shaddam IV transferred to it the fief of Arrakis. (Dune) The move was a trap set by the Harkonnens and the Emperor, and it killed Duke Leto and drove Lady Jessica and Paul into the deep desert. (Dune) Allied with the Fremen, Paul overthrew the Imperium, and his son Leto II later ruled as God Emperor for thirty-five centuries. (Dune; God Emperor of Dune)

House Harkonnen#

House Harkonnen was a Great House whose capital was the industrial world of Giedi Prime, and the historical enemy of House Atreides. (Dune) It governed Arrakis through fear and grew rich on spice while persecuting the Fremen. (Dune) Baron Vladimir Harkonnen plotted to destroy the Atreides, but the rise of Paul brought the House down, and the Baron turned out to be Paul's own grandfather. (Dune)

House Corrino#

House Corrino ruled the Imperium for ten thousand years from the Golden Lion Throne. (Dune) Its power rested on the Sardaukar, the most feared army in the universe. (Dune) After the Fremen under Muad'Dib won the Battle of Arrakeen, Shaddam IV gave up the throne, his daughter Irulan married Paul, and the family went into exile on Salusa Secundus. (Dune)

The Bene Gesserit#

The Bene Gesserit are an all-female order whose training gives them total control of their own bodies, the commanding power of the Voice and the ability to tell truth from lies. (Dune) Through a breeding programme thousands of years long, they tried to produce the Kwisatz Haderach. (Dune) That plan went wrong when Lady Jessica bore Duke Leto a son, Paul, a generation too early. (Dune)

The Fremen#

The Fremen are the desert people of Arrakis, made frugal, hardy and fierce by water scarcity and a long history of persecution. (Dune) They live in sietches led by Naibs, save every drop of water with stillsuits and revere the sandworm Shai-Hulud. (Dune) They took in Paul and Jessica, recognised Paul as their Mahdi, and fought for him against the Harkonnens and the Emperor. (Dune)

Frequently asked questions

Which results can I get in this Dune quiz?
Five: House Atreides, House Harkonnen and House Corrino, plus the Bene Gesserit and the Fremen. The last two aren't Great Houses, but they shape the story of Dune as much as any House does.
How does the quiz choose my house?
Every answer counts towards one result, and whichever gets the most answers wins. Ties go to the one listed first in the results.
Is the quiz based on the books or the films?
The questions are just for fun. The descriptions in the results come from Frank Herbert's novels, mainly Dune, as covered on our pages for each House and group.
