Amulet of Yggdrasil
the enchantment-bearing talisman of Kratos
The Amulet of Yggdrasil was a piece of jewellery Kratos claimed after slaying the dragon Nidhogg. Worn as part of his armour, it held empty settings into which he fitted enchantments gathered from across the Nine Realms.
The Amulet of Yggdrasil was a talisman that came into the possession of Kratos during his Norse journeys, named for Yggdrasil, the World Tree whose roots bound the Nine Realms together. He claimed it after the slaying of the dragon Nidhogg, and from then on wore it as part of his armour, using its settings to hold the enchantments he gathered in his travels.
The talisman of the World Tree#
The Amulet of Yggdrasil came to Kratos as a reward for slaying the dragon Nidhogg, and it became part of his armour the moment he took it up. The amulet itself granted no bonus of its own. Its worth lay in the empty settings it held, into which Kratos could fit enchantments to bolster his strength in battle. When he first claimed it only two of its settings lay open, but more could be opened over time, until as many as nine enchantments could be borne upon it at once.
Jewels and enchantments#
To open the further settings of the amulet, Kratos sought out the Jewels of Yggdrasil, hidden across the realms in sealed chests and won from the foes that guarded them, from the gardens of Vanaheim to the forges of Svartalfheim. The enchantments he set into the amulet were themselves gathered from across the Nine Realms, each bound to a particular place and lending its own measure of power to the wearer. As his collection grew Kratos could swap one enchantment for another to suit the threat before him, shaping the talisman's gifts to the battle at hand.
