Pollux

The Divine Gemini Twin

Pollux was the demigod son of Zeus and half-brother of Kratos, the divine half of the conjoined Gemini twins who usurped the Temple of the Oracle at Delphi. A powerful sorcerer bound to the body of his brother Castor, he was severed from him by Kratos and crushed beneath the Spartan's boot.

By Joe Garratt

Pollux was the divine half of the Gemini twins, a demigod son of Zeus and so a half-brother to Kratos. Conjoined to his elder brother Castor, with whom he had seized the Temple of the Oracle at Delphi, he was among the first of the false prophets to fall before the Spartan.

The divine twin#

Pollux was the demigod of the Gemini twins, born of Leda and Zeus, who had come to her in the form of a swan, while his brother Castor was the mortal son of the Spartan king Tyndareus. Worshiped together as the Dioscuri, the twins were said to aid shipwrecked sailors and to bring favorable winds to those who made sacrifice to them, and both had sailed among the Argonauts. As the son of Zeus, Pollux was half-brother to Kratos.

In the years of the Spartan's quest, Pollux appeared not as the equal of his brother but as a small, undeveloped figure with only one hand, conjoined to Castor's stomach and concealed beneath his elder brother's tunic. Curious about the world he could only glimpse from his cover, he was nonetheless reckoned the divine half of the pair.

Sorcerer of Delphi#

The twins had usurped the Temple of the Oracle at Delphi and seized the time-shifting powers of the blind Oracle, set to their task by the Furies, who meant either to keep Kratos from reaching the Oracle or to keep her imprisoned, for she and her lover Orkos had sought to warn Zeus of the Furies' plot. Though aged, the twins wielded the Amulet of Uroborus to reverse their years and do battle.

For all his shriveled form, Pollux was a formidable sorcerer. He could fly and levitate the weapons of his brother Castor, teleport across the chamber, slow time within a given area, and encase himself in a magical barrier while decaying the ground around him. Lacking a body of his own to wield a weapon, he was the weaker of the two, yet he was able to hold his own against the Spartan even after Kratos tore him free of his brother.

Death in the Oracle's chamber#

Kratos pursued the twins through the temple and brought them down within the Oracle's Chambers. Castor was made to fall to his death, and Pollux, severed from the elder brother to whom he had been bound, met his end as the Spartan crushed his skull beneath his boot while he pleaded his innocence. With the twins destroyed, the Amulet of Uroborus passed into the hands of Kratos.
