The Travelers were heavily armored warriors who followed a mysterious code called the Path, certain it would lead them to enlightenment in Jötunheim. In truth the Path was a deception of Odin, devised to send fanatical warriors to find their way into the home of the Giants.
The Path#
The Travelers were zealous worshippers who followed the Path, a mysterious warrior's code that promised them glorious fortune and enlightenment waiting in Jötunheim. They held to it without question, as strong as they were devout. Yet the Path was no true road to enlightenment. It was an invention of Odin, a lie crafted to trick a large number of warriors into finding a way into the home of the Giants, that the All-Father might send his soldiers to besiege the unsuspecting occupants of the realm.
Warriors of the order#
The Travelers were among the most formidable warriors a foe could meet. Beyond their brute strength they wore heavily reinforced and cumbersome armor, far thicker than the finely crafted work of the Dwarves, and getting through it was the greatest challenge in facing them. They bore enormous swords, and some carried shields whose guard could not be broken. They wielded a measure of Seidr magic as well, and were tough to bring down unless their armor was shattered by repeated blows.
Birgir the heretic#
Not all who took up the Path kept faith with it. Birgir, a Midgardian who had once been a devout member of the order, discovered during his travels that the Path was in truth a means for Odin to send soldiers to their doom in Jötunheim. Seeing the lies behind it, he turned from the creed and sided with the Vanir, fighting alongside Freyr and the resistance against the Aesir. For abandoning the Path, the other Travelers named him a heretic.
