The results explained#

Kratos#

Kratos was tricked by Ares into killing his own wife and daughter, and the ashes that clung to his skin gave him the name Ghost of Sparta. (God of War (2005)) He went on to destroy the whole Olympian pantheon in a war of vengeance. (God of War III) In Midgard he raised Atreus, led the realms against Asgard, and blessed his son's departure before turning to rebuild the realms. (God of War (2018); God of War Ragnarök)

Atreus#

Faye taught Atreus language, hunting and archery while hiding what he and his father really were. (God of War (2018)) He learned on the trip to scatter her ashes that he was a god, that his mother had been a giant, and that his true name was Loki. (God of War (2018)) He later went looking for Tyr in secret, ended Odin by taking his soul, and left to find the remaining giants. (God of War Ragnarök)

Freya#

When Freya refused to give Odin the invulnerability she'd placed on Baldur, he cursed her never to leave Midgard. (God of War (2018)) Kratos killed Baldur to stop him murdering her, and she swore vengeance. (God of War (2018)) After hunting them through Fimbulwinter she allied with Kratos, forgave him, helped bring down Odin and passed on a final chance at revenge. (God of War Ragnarök)

Mimir#

Mimir advised Odin for years and helped with his wars, which he came to regret deeply, before Odin imprisoned him in a tree and tortured him for over a century. (God of War (2018)) Kratos beheaded him at his own request and Freya brought the head back to life. (God of War (2018)) He guided father and son to Jotunheim and tried to mend their bond, and stayed loyal all the way through Ragnarök. (God of War (2018); God of War Ragnarök)

Thor#

Thor was raised in fear and taught to hate the giants despite his own giant blood, and he carried out their genocide with Mjolnir. (God of War Ragnarök) Belittled by his father, he sank back into drink. (God of War Ragnarök) Spared by Kratos and urged to change for his daughter's sake, he stood down and defied Odin, who killed him with Gungnir. (God of War Ragnarök)

Odin#

Odin killed the giant Ymir to make himself All-Father and spent centuries trying to escape his foretold death, ordering the genocide of the giants and torturing Mimir. (God of War Ragnarök) Disguised as Tyr, he manipulated Atreus into rebuilding a mask he thought would open all knowledge to him. (God of War Ragnarök) His murder of Brok united his enemies, and Sindri destroyed his soul. (God of War Ragnarök)

Athena#

Athena sent Kratos to kill Ares in exchange for absolution, guiding him to Pandora's Box. (God of War (2005)) When Kratos cornered Zeus, she threw herself in the way and with her last words told Kratos he was Zeus's son. (God of War II) Once Zeus fell she demanded the power of Hope to rule Olympus, and when Kratos refused and gave it to mankind, she vanished. (God of War III)

Brok#

Brok and his brother Sindri forged Mjolnir to make their names, only for Thor to use it on the giants, so they forged the Leviathan Axe out of guilt. (God of War (2018)) He helped Kratos and Atreus throughout, made up with his brother, and forged the Draupnir Spear. (God of War Ragnarök) Odin, disguised as Tyr, stabbed him to death, and that pushed Kratos and Freya to commit to Ragnarök. (God of War Ragnarök)

Frequently asked questions

Which characters can I get?
Eight: Kratos, Atreus, Freya, Mimir, Thor, Odin, Athena and Brok. Seven come from the Norse games and Athena from the Greek ones. Each turns up five times across the answers, so they're all equally reachable.
How is my result decided?
Every answer counts towards one character, and whoever you pick most often is your result. Ties go to whichever character is listed first.
Are there spoilers?
The questions are spoiler-free, but the result descriptions cover the endings of God of War III and God of War Ragnarök, including who dies. Finish Ragnarök first if you want to go in fresh.
