Asari commandos, also known as huntresses, were powerful asari biotics who formed the elite of the asari military. Usually serving in the maiden stage of their long lives, they fought in small groups using guerrilla tactics and were counted among the finest individual warriors in the galaxy, comparable to krogan Battlemasters. Distinctive in their brown uniforms and armed with shotguns or assault rifles, commandos served as soldiers, bodyguards, and sometimes mercenaries, and a number of them crossed paths with Commander Shepard.

Role within asari society#

Asari commandos, another term for huntresses, were powerful asari biotics who formed the elite of their species' military. They usually served during the maiden stage of their lives and fought in small groups using guerrilla tactics. Because the asari were considered the most powerful species in the contemporary Milky Way, most commando operations involved fighting other asari: terrorists, cults, rogue Ardat-Yakshi, and Citadel secessionists. By tradition a huntress's activities were sealed for five millennia, though a commando might choose to share her experiences at her own discretion.

Service, mercenary work, and notable huntresses#

Beyond the regular military, commandos served as bodyguards to prominent asari, including Matriarch Benezia. Others took mercenary contracts: Nassana Dantius stationed Eclipse commandos in her towers on Illium, and the krogan Urdnot Wrex recalled battling a commando named Aleena. As with many military units, commandos practiced certain combat stances, among them a classic shooting stance called the Karita.

Notable huntresses spanned the breadth of asari history and the wider galaxy. They included Aleena, Captain Enyala, Alestia Iallis, Shiala, Sarissa Theris, Nisira T'Kosh of the unit Talein's Daughters, the powerful Aria T'Loak, and Captain Wasea, the Eclipse commando who held the information sought by the justicar Samara.
