Sheva Alomar: Chris Redfield's BSAA Partner in Resident Evil 5
Sheva Alomar is the BSAA agent from the West African branch who partners Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 5. An Umbrella cover-up killed her parents when she was a child, and she ended up helping to kill Albert Wesker. Here is her backstory, her part in the 2009 mission and what the games say about her since.
Sheva Alomar is the BSAA agent from the West African branch who partners Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 5. She knows the region, she's a match for Chris with a gun, and she sticks with him when the mission falls apart. By the end she has helped free Jill Valentine and kill Albert Wesker. (Resident Evil 5)
Sheva's backstory#
Sheva's file in Resident Evil 5 tells her early life. She grew up in a small factory town in West Africa where most of the adults worked at an Umbrella plant, her parents among them. Umbrella used the town to gather combat data. It infected a worker with the t-Virus, let the outbreak spread, then had the town's people killed to bury the evidence. Sheva hid and survived. The official story was an accident at the plant. (Resident Evil 5)
Taken in by relatives and then by a band of anti-government guerrillas, she grew up in their camps and learned what had really happened to her parents. Years later an American operative, looking for help to stop Umbrella selling bioweapons, found her. The deal he was chasing ran through the guerrillas themselves. Sheva helped him get the evidence, and the deal was broken up. (Resident Evil 5)
Afterwards she moved to the United States, learned English fast and went to university. On the advice of the operative who had brought her over, she joined the BSAA and was posted to its West African branch. (Resident Evil 5)
Partnering Chris in Kijuju (2009)#
In March 2009 the BSAA sent Chris to the Kijuju Autonomous Zone to help capture Ricardo Irving, who was about to sell a bioweapon there. Sheva, who knew the area, was assigned as his partner. Their local contact was beheaded in front of a crowd, and then the crowd turned on them. The locals were infected with a new strain of Las Plagas. (Resident Evil 5)
Alpha Team was wiped out, and Delta Team, led by Sheva's mentor Captain Josh Stone, was massacred after Irving got away. The BSAA ordered the pair out. Chris refused, because a photo in Alpha Team's data showed Jill, his old partner, who he'd thought was dead. Sheva chose to stay with him. Chris told her about the night Jill disappeared, and as they set off into the marshes Sheva told him they were partners, to the end. (Resident Evil 5)
They tracked Irving to an oil field and killed him after he mutated. In the caves beyond, they found the source of the Progenitor virus and an old Umbrella lab run by the pharmaceutical firm Tricell. Sheva recognised the woman on the video screen as Excella Gionne, head of Tricell's African division, and was furious that Tricell was behind the experiments. (Resident Evil 5)
Freeing Jill and killing Wesker#
The masked figure who had rescued Irving turned out to be Jill, controlled by a device on her chest. Chris and Sheva tore it off. Jill told them Wesker planned to spread Uroboros around the world from a bomber. (Resident Evil 5)
On Wesker's ship Sheva picked up one of the vials Excella dropped. When Jill radioed that an overdose of Wesker's own medicine would weaken him, it was Sheva who realised she was holding it. She and Chris injected him twice, the second time aboard the bomber. As Wesker was sucked out of the hatch he grabbed Sheva, and Chris caught her hand. Sheva shot Wesker in the face and he fell into a volcano. (Resident Evil 5)
He came out of the lava fused with Uroboros and grabbed the rescue helicopter. Chris and Sheva fired a rocket launcher each into him, and that was the end of Wesker. Flying home with Jill and Josh, Chris looked at Sheva and Jill and decided the fight was worth it. (Resident Evil 5)
What happened to Sheva?#
The games don't follow her any further. She isn't in Resident Evil 6, where Chris has a new partner, Piers Nivans, and she hasn't had a story role since. As far as the series goes, she's alive and still with the BSAA. (Resident Evil 5)
Sheva in play#
Resident Evil 5 was built around two-player co-operative play, and Sheva is the second player or a computer-controlled partner. She's smaller and more agile than Chris, so he boosts her up to ledges and across gaps she can reach and he can't. (Resident Evil 5)
