Vardona

Dominion core world and Davis stronghold

Vardona was a temperate core world of the Terran Confederacy and later the Terran Dominion, the birthplace of General Carolina Davis and the base from which she ran the Defenders of Man before her downfall.

By Joe Garratt

Vardona was a core world of the Terran Confederacy and later the Terran Dominion. A temperate planet of well-developed cities, it grew into a tourist destination within the Dominion and, as the home of the influential General Carolina Davis, drew substantial funding from the Dominion Armed Forces. Vardona was home to an expansive subway system and to the Vardona Natural History Museum, widely regarded as one of the finest in the Dominion.

A prosperous core world#

Vardona was a planet under the Terran Confederacy and the birthplace of General Carolina Davis. After the Confederacy gave way to the Terran Dominion, the world saw a substantial flow of research funding, in large part because it was the home of the influential Dominion general. Its cities were well developed, its attractions made it a tourist spot within the Dominion, and the Vardona Natural History Museum stood among the best institutions of its kind in the sector.

The Defenders of Man Insurgency#

During the Defenders of Man Insurgency, Vardona became the home base of the Defenders of Man separatist group. General Carolina Davis operated from her estate on the planet, where she researched new technologies and used memory-wipe treatments on ghosts to ensure their loyalty. When it was discovered that Davis was leading the Defenders, Emperor Valerian Mengsk offered to resign on Vardona, in front of her manor. While he distracted her with his speech, the agent Nova Terra infiltrated the compound through the sewers, disabled its security, and incapacitated her former squadmate Stone, who had been mind-wiped, before arresting the general. Davis was brought before Valerian, his speech still in progress, and informed that she was under arrest.

The Tal'darim attack#

Soon afterward the Tal'darim Death Fleet arrived and began attacking the city in revenge for the Defenders of Man's strikes against Tal'darim outposts. Though Nova Terra and Highlord Alarak had an arrangement to aid one another against the Defenders, Nova refused to let him harm the city's civilians. Her Covert Ops Crew, Dominion ground forces, and Defenders of Man unaware of Davis's true agenda joined together to push the Tal'darim back, and the arriving Dominion fleet strafed the attack lanes with Gorgon-class battlecruisers. The Tal'darim suffered heavy casualties and retreated, but in the chaos General Davis stole the vessel Medusa and escaped the planet.
