Which StarCraft Race Are You? Take the Quiz

Ten questions about how you fight, what you value and how you handle a setback, and we'll tell you which power of the Koprulu sector you belong to: terran, zerg, protoss, or the xel'naga and hybrid who shaped them.

By Joe Garratt

Three species fight over the Koprulu sector, and two of them were made by the same ancient beings for the same ancient purpose. Answer ten questions to find out where you'd fit, then read the story explained to see how all five came to blows. (StarCraft; StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void)

The results explained#

Terran#

The terrans reached the Koprulu sector in 2259, settled Tarsonis, Moria and Umoja, and split into rival powers led by the Terran Confederacy. (StarCraft) The Sons of Korhal used the zerg invasion to destroy the Confederacy and raise the Terran Dominion in its place. (StarCraft) After the End War, the Dominion carried on under Emperor Valerian Mengsk in an uneasy peace. (StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void)

Zerg#

Amon's xel'naga shaped the zerg on Zerus for purity of essence, and the Overmind was made to rule them as a single hive mind. (StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm) The Swarm captured Sarah Kerrigan and remade her as the Queen of Blades, and after the Overmind fell on Aiur she brought the whole Swarm under her command. (StarCraft; StarCraft: Brood War) Kerrigan was reborn as a primal zerg, turned the Swarm against Amon, and left it to Zagara, who steered it towards peace. (StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm; StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void)

Protoss#

The protoss were uplifted on Aiur by Amon and his followers, rebelled against them, and fell into the Aeon of Strife until Khas founded the Khala. (StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void) When the zerg overran Aiur, Tassadar gave his life to destroy the Overmind and the survivors fled to Shakuras. (StarCraft; StarCraft: Brood War) When Amon corrupted the Khala, Artanis had his people sever their nerve cords and led them back to retake Aiur. (StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void)

Xel'naga#

The xel'naga renewed their species by guiding two races towards purity of form and purity of essence, so the two would one day merge into the next generation. (StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void) Amon's rogue faction rejected the cycle, uplifted the protoss and zerg for its own ends, and unleashed the Swarm on the loyal xel'naga. (StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm; StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void) Kerrigan ended both Amon and the cycle after absorbing the essence of Ouros, the last of them. (StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void)

Hybrid#

The hybrid were Amon's attempt to force the protoss and zerg together rather than let them merge naturally. (StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void) Zeratul stumbled on Samir Duran's breeding experiments on a dark moon after leaving Char. (StarCraft: Brood War) Later breeding programmes kept producing them until they awoke and took over their handlers, and the Daelaam and its allies destroyed the facilities during the End War. (StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty; StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void) More on how they were made is on the protoss-zerg hybrid page.

Frequently asked questions

Which results can I get?
Five: the terrans, the zerg, the protoss, the xel'naga and the protoss-zerg hybrid. Each one comes up eight times across the answers, so they're all equally likely.
Why are the xel'naga and the hybrid in a race quiz?
The three playable races get the most attention, but the xel'naga made the protoss and the zerg, and the hybrid are what Amon tried to make out of both. They felt too important to leave out.
Does it spoil the games?
The questions don't. The result descriptions mention how the StarCraft II trilogy ends, including Kerrigan's fate, so finish Legacy of the Void first if you care.
