History#
About ten years into the First Cylon War, the Archeron was stationed in Sector 12 on a covert operation, waiting for Graystone Industries scientist Dr. Becca Kelly. Galactica dispatched Raptor 909, with Ensign William Adama and Lieutenant Coker Fasjovik aboard, to carry Kelly to the rendezvous. (Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome)
Before the Raptor arrived, the Cylons caught the Archeron and destroyed her. Her hull stayed largely intact, and the Cylons turned the wreck into a trap, hiding Raiders inside it to pick off any Colonial ship that came looking. When Raptor 909 reached Sector 12, the crew identified the wreck and found no sign of survivors before the Raiders emerged. The Raptor escaped by using the Archeron's FTL drive, which was still active despite the destruction of the ship. (Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome)

As a Jupiter-class vessel, the Archeron shared the design of Galactica: twin flight pods for launching and recovering Vipers and Raptors, heavy gun batteries and thick armour, built to serve as both carrier and battleship. (Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome)
