History#
In Battlestar Galactica Deadlock, Athena is one of the Jupiter-class battlestars being built during the war for delivery to the Twelve Colonies, and she belongs to Picon. Picon's government blames the fleet for not delivering her sooner. With her own FTL drive not yet complete, she is attached to Fleet Group Daidalos for the jump from Scorpia to Picon. At Picon, Cylon ships are still present, left behind to pick off civilians and stray warships after the main assault fleets have moved on. Athena is released from her dock for her maiden voyage, and her Vipers join the fight to destroy the Cylon stragglers. Once the area is clear, she is handed over to Picon's Defence Ministry. Class and capabilities#
As a Jupiter-class vessel, Athena shared the basic design of Galactica: heavy gun batteries, thick armour, and twin flight pods supporting Vipers and Raptors. In Deadlock, the Jupiters keep on-board networking to a minimum so the Cylons can't easily hack them, the same thinking that leaves Galactica's computers unnetworked decades later in the series.
