She was disabled by the Cylon Command Navigation Program exploit and destroyed over Virgon.

By Joe Garratt

The Atlantia was a battlestar serving in the Colonial Fleet in the years following the First Cylon War. When the Cylons launched their surprise attack against the Twelve Colonies, she survived the initial assault, and with the destruction of Picon Fleet Headquarters she became the flagship from which Admiral Nagala took personal command of the Fleet. She was disabled and destroyed during the engagement that followed, falling alongside the counterattack she had been gathered to lead.

Service before the Fall#

The Atlantia served in the Colonial Fleet in the interwar years between the First Cylon War and the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. Galen Tyrol served aboard her as a deckhand earlier in his career. William Adama, then a Major, also served aboard the Atlantia, where he maintained an ongoing feud with the ship's landing signal officer that became the occasion for a celebration marking his thousandth landing.

The flagship of the final defense#

When the Cylons struck the Twelve Colonies, the Atlantia survived the initial assault. After Colonial Fleet Headquarters on Picon was destroyed in the first wave, Admiral Nagala took command of the Fleet from the Atlantia and intended to lead a counterattack against the Cylon forces. The Atlantia, like the ships ordered to converge with her, was crippled when the Cylons used Gaius Baltar's Command Navigation Program against the Fleet, a backdoor that shut the ship's systems down and left her defenseless. She was destroyed by the Cylons over the planet Virgon, with Nagala lost aboard her.

Class#

The Atlantia's class was never confirmed in surviving Colonial records. Because Admiral Nagala chose to place his flag aboard her when he assumed command of the Fleet, it is considered highly likely that she was a Mercury-class battlestar, the largest and most capable line then in service.
