Virgon

The Imperial Colony

Virgon was a temperate world in the Cyrannus star system and one of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol. Once the seat of a dominant interplanetary empire, the "Imperial" colony was ruled by a royal family and was destroyed in the Cylon assault on the Twelve Worlds.

By Joe Garratt

Virgon, known as "Imperial" and originally named Virgo, was a temperate planet in the Cyrannus star system, orbiting the star Helios Beta. It was one of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol, named after the Virgo tribe who had resided on Kobol, though its citizens may not have been affiliated with that tribe. The second largest of the habitable worlds, smaller only than Leonis, Virgon was once the seat of a dominant interplanetary empire and remained a monarchy until the Fall of the Twelve Colonies.

The Virgon Empire#

Following the conclusion of the Gemenese dark age and humanity's reinvention of space flight, Virgon was for a time one of the dominant powers in the star system. It formed the Virgon Empire, which set up colonies on Libran, Picon, Sagittaron, Scorpia, Tauron and Troy. The empire began a long decline approximately 850 years before the Cylon War, after a devastating war with the rival Leonese empire of Leonis.

Government#

At the start of the Cylon War, Virgon took part in establishing the United Colonies of Kobol by signing the Articles of Colonization. Presumably, like the other Twelve Worlds, Virgon maintained its planetary government, which consisted of the Virgonese royal family as heads of state. Its capital was Boskirk, and its landmarks included the House of Parliament, the Tower of Virgon, the Petrus Palace and the Virgon universities.

The Fall of the Twelve Colonies#

During the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, Virgon was bombarded by Cylon basestars. Admiral Nagala took personal command of the Colonial Fleet and led a counteroffensive over Virgon. However, owing to CNP hacking that disabled Colonial warships, the fleet was disabled and destroyed in orbit above the planet.
