The second Columbia belonged to the modern Colonial Fleet. Like other battlestars of her era, she carried integrated command and control systems and Dr. Gaius Baltar's Command Navigation Program, the networked software that the Cylons had secretly compromised. The Fall of the Twelve Colonies#
When the Cylons launched their surprise attack, Admiral Nagala took command of the Fleet from the Atlantia after the loss of Fleet Headquarters on Picon. Galactica soon received word that the Atlantia had been destroyed, and with her the Triton, the Solaria and the Columbia, among many other ships brought down through the Cylon backdoors in the Command Navigation Program. Name and legacy#
The second Columbia shared her name with an earlier Columbia, a battlestar of the same design as Galactica that was destroyed late in the First Cylon War during Operation Raptor Talon.
