Battlestar Triton
warship lost in the Cylon offensive
Triton was a Colonial battlestar that served after the First Cylon War and was destroyed during the opening engagements of the Fall of the Twelve Colonies.
Triton was a battlestar in service to the Colonial Fleet following the First Cylon War. When the Cylons attacked the Twelve Colonies some forty years after the end of that war, Triton engaged enemy forces during the offensive that destroyed Picon Fleet Headquarters and a quarter of the Fleet, and it was presumably destroyed shortly afterward.
Service history#
The Triton served in the Colonial Fleet following the First Cylon War and was assigned to Battlestar Group 39, which was part of the Aerilon Combat 5th Division. At some point Commander James Jonasson held command of the vessel. During his tenure, Junior Lieutenant Kara Thrace served aboard as a Viper pilot, and Jonasson filed disciplinary charges against her, an incident later recorded in her personnel file.
The Fall of the Twelve Colonies#
Triton was still in service during the events surrounding the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. Lieutenant Alex Quartararo, an Electronic Countermeasures Officer and qualified Raptor pilot, was part of the crew at the time. After the destruction of Picon Fleet Headquarters in the first wave of the Cylon offensive, Admiral Nagala took personal command of the Fleet aboard Atlantia. During the engagement that followed, Triton was destroyed by Cylon forces, alongside Atlantia, Columbia and Solaria.
Aftermath#
Quartararo survived the destruction of the battlestar and later joined the civilian fleet guarded by Galactica as it fled the destruction of the Twelve Colonies. A patch bearing the name of the Battlestar Triton was worn on the upper left arm of the survivor's flight suit, a small memorial to a ship lost in the opening hours of the war.
