By Joe Garratt

Picon, known as "The Ocean Colony" and originally named Pices, was a planet in the Cyrannus star system, orbiting the star Helios Alpha. It was one of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol, named after the Pisces tribe who had resided on Kobol, though its citizens may not have been affiliated with that tribe. A temperate world three-quarters covered by ocean, Picon was an affluent and educated colony that became home to Colonial Fleet Headquarters following the Cylon War.

Settlement and independence#

Following the redevelopment of space technology by the peoples of Gemenon, the planets Caprica, Picon and Virgon were among the earliest established colonies, each under the administrative control of the Virgonese. Because of this shared evolution all three were culturally similar and spoke the same language. Following an 18th-century decline, Picon gained independence from Virgon while maintaining close ties.

Geography#

Three-quarters of Picon's surface was water, which earned the planet its name as "The Ocean Colony", and its seas were abundant with aquatic life. Its average temperature was lower than that of Caprica, but its climate remained temperate. Notable attractions included Penrose Harbor.

Culture and the Colonial Fleet#

In the 20th century Picon was known for its socially progressive attitudes toward health care and affordable housing. Its crime rate was relatively low, and it boasted an affluent and educated population. Following the Cylon War, the Colonial Fleet made its base at Perkinston, and Picons represented a large share of its administrative staff. Colonial Fleet Headquarters stood among the planet's principal landmarks.
