Daru Mozu

Daru Mozu, also designated Refinery 322, was a civilian refinery ship that escaped the Fall of the Twelve Colonies as part of the refugee fleet led by the Galactica and Colonial One. As a tylium-processing vessel, it was vital to the fleet's supply of fuel. By the later seasons, though, the Hitei Kan was described as the fleet's only refinery. Role in the fleet#

Daru Mozu was a tylium-processing vessel, and the refined tylium it produced kept the fleet's ships fuelled and able to jump. Laura Roslin's ragtag convoy found it in the first hours after the attack, and it helped refuel her ships before they fled to the Ragnar Anchorage. Later, raw tylium mined from a captured asteroid by ships such as the Monarch was sent to it for processing, and fleet ships refuelled by pulling alongside a refinery and connecting to it. The Demand Peace bombing#

About six months after the Fall, a member of the anti-war group Demand Peace set off a suicide bomb aboard the Daru Mozu, blowing a hole in the forward section and killing herself and several crew members. A deleted scene puts the crew death toll at four. The damage was repaired and the ship stayed with the fleet. (Battlestar Galactica, "Epiphanies"; Battlestar Galactica, "Epiphanies" (deleted scene))

Loss of the refinery#

By the time of the Hitei Kan labour strike after the escape from New Caprica, the Hitei Kan was described as the fleet's only refinery, and when it later jumped away during a mutiny Saul Tigh worried that it was taking all their fuel with it. Yet ships matching the Daru Mozu's design still appear in the fleet in later episodes. The series never explains what happened to its refining role.
