Pyxis was a Gemenon Liner 1701-type civilian cruiser which escaped the Fall of the Twelve Colonies in the refugee fleet led by the Battlestar Galactica. Pyxis shared its 1701-type design with its sister ship Chrion.
Service in the Fleet#
Pyxis was a passenger liner operated by Sagitarrian Spaceways and built to the Gemenon Liner 1701-type design. When the Cylons destroyed the Twelve Colonies, it was among the civilian vessels that gathered into the refugee fleet led by Galactica and joined the long flight from Cylon pursuit. Its recorded complement ranged from roughly 462 passengers about a year after the Fall to roughly 600 by the third year.
Destruction#
About three years after the Fall, Pyxis was caught in a Cylon ambush in the Ionian Nebula. During the engagement an out-of-control Cylon Raider crashed into the ship's sublight drive. The resulting explosion destroyed Pyxis entirely, killing all of the roughly 600 passengers aboard.
Design#
Pyxis measured roughly 257 meters in length, 44 meters in width, and 23 meters in height. It was driven by four sublight engines and a set of maneuvering thrusters, and like the other vessels of the Fleet it was equipped with a faster-than-light drive that allowed it to keep pace with Galactica during the convoy's jumps.
