The Fall and escape#
During the initial Cylon nuclear attack, the Rising Star was in orbit over Picon, where she assisted first responders by taking aboard wounded rescued from the surface on evacuation Raptors. Among the survivors were Ellen Tigh and the humanoid Cylon known as Cavil, with Tigh treated in the sickbay alongside other refugees.
Shortly after departing Picon, the Rising Star met up with the fleet then forming under newly appointed President Laura Roslin. Not long after her arrival, the fleet was discovered by a Cylon Raider patrol, and all faster-than-light capable ships, the Rising Star among them, jumped to the gas giant Ragnar for safety. The Rising Star then left the Cyrannus Star System behind to follow Galactica in its search for Earth.
Medical service with the Fleet#
The Rising Star took on the role of the Fleet's principal medical vessel. Shortly after the Fall, the first post-holocaust baby was born aboard her. Major Sherman Cottle, one of the few remaining doctors in the fleet, often made his rounds on the Rising Star, and was once stranded there when an ill-executed jump separated Galactica from the rest of the convoy.
