The Fall and escape#
During the initial Cylon nuclear attack, the Rising Star was in orbit over Picon, where she assisted first responders by taking aboard wounded rescued from the surface on evacuation Raptors. Among the survivors were Ellen Tigh and the humanoid Cylon known as Cavil, with Tigh treated in the sickbay alongside other refugees. (Battlestar Galactica: The Plan; Battlestar Galactica, "No Exit")
Shortly after departing Picon, the Rising Star met up with the fleet then forming under newly appointed President Laura Roslin. Not long after her arrival, the fleet was discovered by a Cylon Raider patrol, and all faster-than-light capable ships, the Rising Star among them, jumped to the gas giant Ragnar for safety. Medical service with the Fleet#
The Rising Star took on the role of the Fleet's principal medical vessel. Shortly after the Fall, the first post-holocaust baby was born aboard her. Major Sherman Cottle, one of the few remaining doctors in the fleet, was aboard the Rising Star when a botched jump separated Galactica from the rest of the convoy, leaving him stranded away from his own sickbay. Galactica
Galactica was a Jupiter-class battlestar that served the Colonial Fleet from the Cylon War until the discovery of Earth. Never networked, it survived the Fall of the Twelve Colonies and shepherded the last fifty thousand humans across uncharted space before being scuttled into the sun.
