Virgon Express

the Colonial maintenance vessel

The Virgon Express was a maintenance vessel that joined the refugee fleet led by Galactica before it left the Cyrannus Star System. It survived an early Cylon sabotage of Galactica's water tanks and remained a regular presence in the fleet for years.

By Joe Garratt

The Virgon Express was a maintenance vessel of the Virgon Express-type that joined the refugee fleet led by the Battlestar Galactica before it left the Cyrannus Star System after the Fall of the Twelve Colonies.

History#

The Virgon Express joined the civilian fleet that gathered around Galactica in the aftermath of the Fall. Approximately one week after the Fall, the ship needed to dock with Galactica to receive water supplies. While the two were connected via UNREP lines, a Cylon sabotage caused explosive decompression in Galactica's port-side water storage tanks, resulting in a massive leak of drinkable water. After Galactica performed evasive maneuvers, the Virgon Express reestablished its position and remained a regular presence in the fleet for years afterward.

Design#

The Virgon Express was a flattop maintenance ship measuring roughly 217.8 units in length, 74.1 in width, and 91.3 in height. It carried two sublight engines, maneuvering thrusters, and an FTL drive, and was fitted with a single hangar bay and an unpressurized berth. The vessel lent its name to the Virgon Express-type, a class of flattop maintenance ships that served within the fleet.
