The Viper Mark VIIb was a Viper space-superiority fighter flown by the Colonial Fleet in the years prior to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. It was the seventh generation in the Viper line, a series that had been in production since before the First Cylon War. The Mark VIIb was an evolution of the earlier Mark VIIa, introducing several design changes, the most noticeable being a more oval nose.

Design#

The Mark VIIb was the latest refinement of the seventh-generation Viper, an evolution of the Mark VIIa rather than an entirely new airframe. It carried over the broad layout of the VIIa while introducing several design changes, the most prominent of which was a reshaped, more oval nose that distinguished it from its predecessor at a glance.

Production and service#

The newer Mark VIIb fighters were manufactured aboard the Battlestar Pegasus. The type was flown by Kara Thrace during her tenure as the air group commander of Pegasus.
