Little is known of Agni's past in Metru NuiMetru NuiThe city beneath Mata Nui functions as the Great Spirit's brain, housing the Matoran whose labor keeps the god alive. prior to the Great Cataclysm. By the time of the Mask of Light crisis, the Ta-Koro Guard oversaw a fortress around the city of Ta-KoroTa-KoroTa-Koro was a settlement located in Ta-Wahi, home to the Ta-Matoran, Tahu, and Vakama, and formerly connected to Teridax. The settlement was ultimately destroyed., where Agni served alongside fellow guards including Jaller, Kapura, Kalama, Nuhrii, Keahi, and Brander. The Guard armed itself with Ta-Koro Guard spears and bamboo disks in battle and stood as the largest Matoran military force on Mata Nui.

Agni later resided on Spherus MagnaSpherus MagnaA desert world of ancient conflict that became the merger point of the Matoran Universe and Bionicle's true endpoint..
