The Elemental Trident

Gali's Signature Weapon on Okoto

The Elemental Trident was the signature weapon of Gali, Master of Water, on Okoto, a tri-pronged armament that controlled water in the field and split apart into Shark Fins and a Harpoon for travel through the submerged terrain of the Region of Water.

Construction and three modes#

The Elemental Trident was built as a single weapon with three working configurations. In its assembled form it functioned as a tri-pronged elemental armament, the channel through which GaliGali, Master of Water: The Toa Who Closed the RiftGali of Okoto was the Master of Water of the Toa, the team's mediator at the Ancient City, and the Toa drawn into the Shadow Realm at the Black Volcano who returned with the means of the second banishment. drew on her control over water and through which she shaped the heavier expressions of the element, including tidal waves and the heavy rains she could summon over the surrounding terrain. The Trident was therefore not a melee weapon in the simple sense. It was an elemental focus that organised the Toa of WaterGali, Master of Water: The Toa Who Closed the RiftGali of Okoto was the Master of Water of the Toa, the team's mediator at the Ancient City, and the Toa drawn into the Shadow Realm at the Black Volcano who returned with the means of the second banishment.'s output through a physical instrument shaped for both close work and elemental projection.

The blades that made up the prongs of the Trident could detach from the central shaft and reattach to GaliGali, Master of Water: The Toa Who Closed the RiftGali of Okoto was the Master of Water of the Toa, the team's mediator at the Ancient City, and the Toa drawn into the Shadow Realm at the Black Volcano who returned with the means of the second banishment.'s feet as Shark Fins. In that configuration the weapon ceased to function as a Trident and became a pair of swim aids that propelled the ToaThe Toa of Okoto: The Six Heroes Summoned to Save the IslandThe six elemental heroes summoned by the Protectors of Okoto, who recovered the Golden Masks, woke Ekimu, fought the Skull Army, and twice banished Makuta to the Shadow Realm. through the water at the speed her elemental nature required. The Shark Fins were the loadout's answer to the operating environment of the Region of WaterRegion of WaterThe eastern water province of Okoto, home of the Water Tribe and the Protector of Water, Kivoda, and the region through which Gali was guided across rivers, lakes, and deltas to claim the Golden Mask of Water., a region in which long stretches of every journey were spent under the surface and in which speed and agility in the medium were as important as any ability to fight on land.

The central shaft that remained when the blades were removed served as her Harpoon. The Harpoon was usable as an arrow, supplying GaliGali, Master of Water: The Toa Who Closed the RiftGali of Okoto was the Master of Water of the Toa, the team's mediator at the Ancient City, and the Toa drawn into the Shadow Realm at the Black Volcano who returned with the means of the second banishment. with a thrown ranged option while she carried the Shark Fins on her feet rather than as parts of an assembled Trident. The three modes therefore operated as a single integrated kit. The Trident was the standing form, the Shark Fins were the travel form, and the Harpoon was the ranged form, and the same components reconfigured between them as the situation demanded.

Relation to the Protector's blaster#

The Trident was not the same weapon as the Elemental Torpedo BlasterThe Elemental Torpedo BlasterThe Elemental Torpedo Blaster was the ranged diving weapon carried by Kivoda of Water through the second-age campaign on Okoto, and the tool that passed to Gali in powered-up form at the shrine of the Golden Mask of Water., the diving weapon carried by KivodaKivoda, Protector of Water of OkotoKivoda was the village elder and Protector of Water in the second age of Okoto, wielder of the Elemental Torpedo Blaster, descendant of Owaki, and guide who led Gali through the underwater region to the Golden Mask of Water., Protector of WaterProtectorsThe six elders of Okoto's villages, each wielding elemental powers and guarding their regions before the Toa arrived.. The two weapons addressed different needs in the field. The powered-up Torpedo Blaster supplied the precision ranged work that the Protector-tier instrument had been built around in the first place, scaled up for the elemental capacity the Toa of WaterGali, Master of Water: The Toa Who Closed the RiftGali of Okoto was the Master of Water of the Toa, the team's mediator at the Ancient City, and the Toa drawn into the Shadow Realm at the Black Volcano who returned with the means of the second banishment. brought to it. The Trident supplied the close-in elemental focus, the propulsion solution, and the thrown Harpoon option, and it was the weapon GaliGali, Master of Water: The Toa Who Closed the RiftGali of Okoto was the Master of Water of the Toa, the team's mediator at the Ancient City, and the Toa drawn into the Shadow Realm at the Black Volcano who returned with the means of the second banishment. reached for whenever the situation called for direct elemental engagement rather than the long-range precision shot. Position within Gali's evolving loadout#

The Elemental Trident was GaliGali, Master of Water: The Toa Who Closed the RiftGali of Okoto was the Master of Water of the Toa, the team's mediator at the Ancient City, and the Toa drawn into the Shadow Realm at the Black Volcano who returned with the means of the second banishment.'s primary weapon throughout the recorded events of the second-age campaign in which she served as Master of Water. The loadout was modified in the later phase of her service, when GaliGali, Master of Water: The Toa Who Closed the RiftGali of Okoto was the Master of Water of the Toa, the team's mediator at the Ancient City, and the Toa drawn into the Shadow Realm at the Black Volcano who returned with the means of the second banishment. returned to OkotoOkotoOkoto is a world whose known inhabitants include the Toa, the Mask makers, and the Protectors. as Uniter of Water in the campaign that followed and her weapon was replaced by a single elemental blade of water. The change in armament accompanied the change in mask, with the Mask of Water and the Golden Mask of Water from the Master phase giving way to the Unity Mask of Water and the Golden Unity Mask of Water in the Uniter phase. The Trident, with its three-mode construction and its tri-pronged elemental focus, belonged to the earlier era of her service and to the loadout in which it had been built to operate alongside the Shark Fins and the Harpoon.

The weapon's defining contribution to the campaign was the combination it offered between elemental projection, propulsion through water, and a thrown ranged option in a single integrated kit. The Toa of WaterGali, Master of Water: The Toa Who Closed the RiftGali of Okoto was the Master of Water of the Toa, the team's mediator at the Ancient City, and the Toa drawn into the Shadow Realm at the Black Volcano who returned with the means of the second banishment.'s movement profile required mobility through a medium none of the other ToaThe Toa of Okoto: The Six Heroes Summoned to Save the IslandThe six elemental heroes summoned by the Protectors of Okoto, who recovered the Golden Masks, woke Ekimu, fought the Skull Army, and twice banished Makuta to the Shadow Realm. had to traverse for any extended stretch, and the Trident's reconfiguration into Shark Fins and Harpoon was the design solution to that requirement. Frequently asked questions

What is the Elemental Trident?
The Elemental Trident was the signature weapon of Gali, Master of Water, through the second-age campaign on Okoto. It was a tri-pronged armament built for submerged terrain, capable of channelling Gali's elemental control of water into tidal waves and heavy rains.
What are the three modes of the Elemental Trident?
The Trident was a single weapon with three configurations. In assembled form it functioned as a tri-pronged elemental armament, its blades could detach and reattach to Gali's feet as Shark Fins for propulsion through water, and the central shaft that remained served as her Harpoon, usable as an arrow.
How is the Elemental Trident different from the Elemental Torpedo Blaster?
The Trident was not the same weapon as the Elemental Torpedo Blaster carried by Kivoda. The Torpedo Blaster was the Protector-tier ranged armament that passed to Gali in powered-up form at the shrine, while the Trident was the Toa-tier instrument that sat alongside it in her loadout, supplying close-in elemental focus, propulsion, and the thrown Harpoon option.
How did Gali use the Elemental Trident against the Lord of Skull Spiders?
At the bridge outside the City of the Mask Makers, after Onua suggested a collaboration rather than individual attacks, Gali opened the new sequence by striking the Lord of Skull Spiders with her Elemental Trident. That opening blow became the foundation of the team effort that defeated the spider lord.
What happened to Gali's Elemental Trident later in her service?
Gali's loadout was modified in the later phase of her service, when she returned to Okoto as Uniter of Water and her weapon was replaced by a single elemental blade of water. The change in armament accompanied the change from her Master-phase masks to the Unity Mask of Water and the Golden Unity Mask of Water.
