Frostelus
BIONICLE's Territorial Ice Creatures
Ancient territorial beings of uncertain origin, the Frostelus nearly wiped out an entire Toa order.

A group of armored creatures attacked a fortress guarding the Makoki StoneMakoki StoneA magical relic holding the secrets of the Brotherhood of Makuta, split into six pieces and scattered across the Matoran Universe. and left only LhikanLhikanToa of Fire, leader of the Toa Mangai, and the last Toa of Metru Nui, who surrendered his Toa Power to create the Toa Metru and died defending Vakama. alive. Nobody knows where they came from, what they really are, or why they struck. The Frostelus remain one of the Matoran UniverseMatoran UniverseA civilization of biomechanical beings living inside a colossal robot, destroyed when Teridax seized control.'s most puzzling encounters.
What Are the Frostelus?#

The Frostelus sit in an uncomfortable category between RahiRahiThe Rahi were the biomechanical wildlife of the Matoran Universe, built largely by the Brotherhood of Makuta, ranging from background fauna to engineered war beasts. and something smarter. They're not mindless beasts, but they're not MatoranMatoranThe most abundant species in the Matoran Universe, chosen by Mata Nui to inhabit and maintain his cosmic body. either. The most popular theory is that they're victims of the VisorakVisorak (Rahi)Spider-like Rahi employed by the Brotherhood of Makuta whose name meant 'Stealers of Life' and whose swarms threatened the Matoran Universe., transformed into something neither fully animal nor sentient. Others suspect they're a species nobody's documented yet. The truth is, we don't know.
Their coloring suggests ice or frost affinity, though the archives don't detail any elemental powers. They're organized enough to mount coordinated attacks and territorial enough to defend their space aggressively. That combination is rare in creatures classified as RahiRahiThe Rahi were the biomechanical wildlife of the Matoran Universe, built largely by the Brotherhood of Makuta, ranging from background fauna to engineered war beasts.. It hints at something more intelligent underneath.
The Fortress Attack#
A garrison of Toa stood guard over the Makoki StoneMakoki StoneA magical relic holding the secrets of the Brotherhood of Makuta, split into six pieces and scattered across the Matoran Universe., a position that would've seemed secure. Then the Frostelus struck. The attack wasn't a random raid. It was sustained and deliberate. Only LhikanLhikanToa of Fire, leader of the Toa Mangai, and the last Toa of Metru Nui, who surrendered his Toa Power to create the Toa Metru and died defending Vakama. walked away.
That single survivor changed how the archives think about these creatures. One Toa held the line against an entire assault? LhikanLhikanToa of Fire, leader of the Toa Mangai, and the last Toa of Metru Nui, who surrendered his Toa Power to create the Toa Metru and died defending Vakama. was skilled, but not invincible. The implication is that the Frostelus either broke their attack at a critical moment or faced some internal collapse. We don't have the full story.

The Frostelus fell.
The fact that the Hagah chose to document this specific encounter suggests the creatures posed enough threat to warrant recording. Two Hagah against an unknown number of Frostelus, coordinated enough to use a combination move. These creatures demanded respect.
