Turning against their former masters, the Toa Hagah raided a Brotherhood of Makuta fortress and stole the Kanohi Avohkii, the Mask of Light, determined to keep it from the Brotherhood. In the escape every member except Norik and Iruini was captured. The captured Toa Hagah were mutated by Roodaka into the diminished forms of the Rahaga. As a Rahaga, Iruini remained on Metru Nui after the Great Cataclysm. He was a skeptic among his kind: when NorikNorikToa of Fire and leader of the Toa Hagah, who broke with the Brotherhood of Makuta to recover the Avohkii and led his team through a thousand years of mutation as a Rahaga before being restored. spoke of the legendary Rahi Keetongu, Iruini openly derided the idea, holding that the creature did not exist. He revealed to Matau that the Rahaga had once been Toa, and that Roodaka was responsible for their mutation. While searching with Matau for materials to build airships to carry the Matoran to safety, he shared his doubts about Keetongu, even as the others remained divided on whether to seek the Rahi out.
