Prototype (Dark Hunter)
An unstable fusion of Fire and Earth, Prototype was forged through biomechanical mutation and hired for his violent unpredictability.

Prototype shouldn't exist. In BIONICLEBIONICLE: Matoran AdventuresA 2002 GBA platformer where you play as one of six Matoran fighting Bohrok across Mata Nui's islands. Legends 4: Legacy of Evil, Prototype appears as one of the few Dark Hunters stable enough to operate within the organization, which tells you everything you need to know about how low that bar sits.
Origin and Nature#
Prototype resulted from a biomechanical mutation that fused two Toa elements into one unstable form. Unlike most warriors who receive training or inherit power, Prototype was manufactured through accident or deliberate experimentation. He's described as violent and unpredictable, traits that might have disqualified him from most organizations but made him exactly what The Shadowed OneThe Shadowed OneThe Shadowed One is the leader of the Dark Hunters, a black, yellow, and silver figure based on Spherus Magna. Armed with a staff and a Rhotuka, the Shadowed One directs the organization. needed. The Shadowed OneThe Shadowed OneThe Shadowed One is the leader of the Dark Hunters, a black, yellow, and silver figure based on Spherus Magna. Armed with a staff and a Rhotuka, the Shadowed One directs the organization. valued these instability, violence, and unpredictability (qualities that would disqualify candidates elsewhere) as precisely the traits he needed in a Dark Hunter. This wasn't reluctant recruitment. This was recognition that chaos could be weaponized. Prototype illustrates the Dark Hunters' underlying philosophy: recruit the outcasts, the failures, the ones that traditional armies reject, because their desperation makes them reliable.
Powers and Combat#
Wielding claws as his primary weapons, Prototype channels both Fire and Earth through his mutated frame, giving him dual-elemental tactical flexibility in direct combat. His control over both flame and soil means he can adapt to different battlefield conditions. He operates without the restraint of a Toa's traditional moral code or the structural discipline of a team. That independence is what makes him dangerous to anyone who isn't paying a salary. In Legacy of Evil, his combat philosophy reveals someone operating beyond conventional motivation, indifferent to bright lights and unaffected by pain or external stimulus. The dismissal of external stimulus suggests a warrior reduced to pure instinct and elemental appetite. Pain, fear, light, psychology, tactics. None of it registers. He just hits things until they stop moving.
Canon Status#
Prototype remains poorly documented in the wider Bionicle canon, appearing briefly in Legacy of Evil as a supporting member of The Shadowed OneThe Shadowed OneThe Shadowed One is the leader of the Dark Hunters, a black, yellow, and silver figure based on Spherus Magna.
