What Happened to Takanuva?

After TakuaTakuaAn Av-Matoran hidden on Mata Nui as a Ta-Matoran, who gathered the Toa Stones, served as Chronicler, and ultimately accepted the Avohkii to become Takanuva, the Toa of Light. became the Toa of Light in Mask of Light, he guarded Metru Nui, was half-drained by a shadow leech, wandered through alternate universes, fought at Karda NuiKarda NuiThe vast inner cavern at the core of the Matoran Universe, original home of the Av-Matoran, site of the Codrex and the final battle that decided the fate of Mata Nui. and finally helped win the battle on Bara Magna. The Toa of Light#

Takua starts BIONICLE: Mask of Light as a wandering chronicler who'd rather explore than play kolhii. He finds the Mask of Light and sets off with JallerJallerJaller served as Captain of the Ta-Koro Guard, led the Toa Inika to Voya Nui, and commanded the Toa Mahri through the recovery of the Mask of Life. to find the seventh Toa it's meant for. When Jaller is killed shielding him from a Rahkshi, Takua realises the mask was meant for him all along. He puts it on and becomes Takanuva, Toa of Light. (BIONICLE: Mask of Light)

He rides into Makuta's lair, where Makuta challenges him to a game of kolhii for the right to open the gate. During the fight he tries to pull off Makuta's mask, and the two fall together into a pool of energised protodermis. They come out merged as Takutanuva, who calls Mata Nui "our brother", brings Jaller back to life and lifts the great gate so the Matoran can return to their old city. The gate then falls and crushes him. The mask is recovered from the rubble and Takanuva lives again. (BIONICLE: Mask of Light)

A shadow leech and a long detour#

Once the Matoran return to Metru NuiMetru NuiThe city beneath Mata Nui functions as the Great Spirit's brain, housing the Matoran whose labor keeps the god alive., Takanuva stays to protect the city while the Toa NuvaToa NuvaThe form the Toa Mata took after stepping into the Energized Protodermis beneath the Bahrag, with new masks, new tools, and the elemental scale to fight Karda Nui. go on their quests. BIONICLE Legends 10: Swamp of Secrets opens with him patrolling the beaches. A shadow leech jumps him as he races to the Archives, and before he can burn it off, it drains about half his light. Helryx shows him visions of the Toa Mata's past and gives him a message for the Toa Nuva in Karda Nui. BrutakaBrutakaBrutaka guarded the Kanohi Ignika on Voya Nui, betrayed the Order during the Piraka incursion, served time in the Pit, and later led the Federation of Fear strike team. opens a portal with his Mask of Dimensional Gates, and Takanuva steps through. The portal goes wrong. In the short story The Kingdom, he lands in a universe where Matoro failed and Mata Nui died, and the Matoran live on the island under a Turaga Takanuva. In the podcast serial Dark Mirror, he ends up in a reality ruled by tyrannical Toa under the Toa of Water Tuyet, and helps overthrow her before escaping. (The Kingdom; Dark Mirror)

Karda Nui#

He finally comes out in the Swamp of Secrets in Karda Nui in BIONICLE Legends 11: The Final Battle, where he drives off a Makuta threatening Gali and joins the Toa Nuva. The shadow in him is a danger now. When the Makuta Chirox and Bitil attack, he flies into a rage and nearly kills Chirox before Kopaka talks him down. (BIONICLE Legends 11: The Final Battle)

He also learns who he really is: not a Ta-Matoran but an Av-Matoran, a Matoran of Light, hidden in disguise long ago. He sets out to cure the Shadow Matoran of Karda Nui, uses the Rahi called the klakk to restore their light, and escapes the energy storms with the others when Mata Nui wakes. Then Teridax reveals he has taken the Great Spirit's body. (BIONICLE Legends 11: The Final Battle)

Bara Magna and after#

In the 2010 comics that end the saga, Takanuva follows a stream of Rahkshi out of the Great Spirit Robot onto Bara Magna. The Glatorian GreshGreshA young Glatorian of the Jungle Tribe who served Tesara and later joined the alliance that defended Bara Magna during its final crisis. takes him for another enemy at first. When Teridax blasts the pieces of the Golden Armor across the desert, Takanuva tricks two Rahkshi into hitting each other and wins back one of the pieces for TahuTahu, Toa of FireTahu served as Toa Mata, Toa Nuva, and Toa Mistika of Fire, leading his team from the first landing on Mata Nui to the destruction of the Rahkshi army on Bara Magna.. Teridax dies in that battle, the moons rejoin Bara Magna, and Mata Nui brings the reborn planet to life. Takanuva is among the survivors who walk out onto Spherus Magna, and that's the last big moment the original saga gives him before the story stopped. (BIONICLE Glatorian 7: Rebirth)
