The Spider was a massive Necromorph that clung to the exterior of the derelict USG Ishimura. It attacked Nathan McNeill at the end of his effort to disable the ship''s ADS Cannon, a battle fought across the ship''s hull in open space.
Form and abilities#
The Spider was a unique Necromorph of gigantic size. An unknown portion of its body was never visible, but the part that could be seen was armor-plated, which made direct fire on it useless. It had two large arms, each ending in a scorpion-like stinger that could shoot barbs and carried a weak underside, along with two very large tentacles and many other versatile appendages.
Many leg-like appendages supported the creature as it moved, and four special appendages beneath its mouth served to draw aside the plating that normally concealed it. With the plating moved, the Spider used a long, tube-like mouth that could reach out and latch onto a victim. Once it had hold of its target, small pustules grew inside the mouth and burst to wound the trapped prey. The creature had a second mode of attack as well, releasing Leapers from glowing sacs attached to a tentacle.
Attack on the Ishimura#
The Spider appeared on the hull of the USG Ishimura after Nathan McNeill had ventured outside the ship and shut down its ADS Cannon. Hampered at moments by the effects of the Marker, Nathan fended off the creature as it attacked across the exterior in the vacuum of space. As he prepared to re-enter the ship, the Spider returned and pinned his right arm to the floor with a spike. With the oxygen in his suit running out, Nathan was forced to amputate his own arm to break free.
Fate#
The Spider''s ultimate fate went unrecorded. It was most likely destroyed at some point, either in the destruction of Aegis VII or when the Ishimura was later recovered. Some accounts of the creature called the Slug, a massive Necromorph found clinging to the Ishimura''s hull soon afterward, speculated that it might have been a wounded offshoot of the Spider, since the events aboard the ship followed only hours after the Spider''s attack.
