By Joe Garratt

Ziarenko Javid was a Fremen follower of the Padishah Emperor Paul "Muad'Dib" Atreides who became High Priest of the Qizarate after the execution of the treacherous Korba. In the last years of the regency he served as Master of Appointments to the Regent Alia Atreides and became her lover, a relationship that drew the fury of her husband, the Mentat ghola Duncan Idaho, and ended in his death. He died in 10219 AG.

Origins in Sietch Jacurutu#

Javid was born in Sietch Jacurutu as the son of its Naib, Namri. His father trained him to one day become one of the water stealers of the Iduali, the Fremen of Jacurutu. Javid left his father and the Iduali behind, however, to become a priest, and in time he rose to become the Regent Alia Atreides' Master of Appointments. His long isolation at Jacurutu left its mark on his speech, which carried an unusual accent full of outdated pronunciations. He had surly features, shadowed eyes and round cheeks, and was conspicuously well fed.

High Priest and lover of the Regent#

Following the execution of Korba for his part in the conspiracy against Muad'Dib, Javid rose to become High Priest of the Qizarate. In the last years of the regency the ego-memory spectre of the deceased Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, which contended for control of Alia from within, urged the Regent to take Javid as a lover. Soon after their relationship began, the Swordmaster and Mentat ghola Duncan Idaho, Alia's husband, deduced the affair, and it angered him severely.

Death during the revolt of the Naibs#

During the revolt of the Naibs, Duncan killed Javid publicly in Sietch Tabr, both as revenge for the affair and as a calculated act meant to force the hand of the Tabr Naib Stilgar. The killing achieved its purpose. Javid's death provoked Stilgar to abandon his position of neutrality between Alia and the rebel Fremen, and he killed Duncan in turn, casting his lot against the Regency.
