Korba
the Panegyrist of Muad'Dib
Korba was a Fremen follower of Paul Muad'Dib who rose from the original Fedaykin to become Panegyrist and Priest of the Qizarate, before turning against his Emperor in a conspiracy to martyr him and meeting death at the hands of Stilgar.
Korba was a Fremen follower of Paul Muad'Dib Atreides, the man many Fremen took for the Mahdi. He began his rise as one of the original Fedaykin whom Paul trained in the Weirding Way during the Desert War, and went on to become a powerful priest of the religion built around the Emperor before betraying him.
Fedaykin and commander#
Korba began his rise to power as one of the original Fedaykin, the death commandos whom Paul trained in the Weirding Way during the Desert War on Arrakis. He served as a commander at the Battle of Arrakeen in 10193 AG, the engagement that allowed Paul to depose Shaddam Corrino IV and take the Padishah throne, and that set the Fremen loose on a twelve-year galactic jihad waged in Muad'Dib's name.
Panegyrist and Priest#
After the Battle of Arrakeen, Korba was given the title of Panegyrist and became an important member of the Qizarate, the priesthood of the new imperial religion. He rose further to the rank of Priest by 10208 AG. In this office he was a zealous enforcer of Muad'Dib's cult, and was one of the figures placed in charge of building the great Arrakeen palace, where his demand that the structure carry overwhelming religious significance set him against the architect Whitmore Bludd.
Betrayal and death#
By the height of his power, Korba turned against his Mahdi and became embroiled in a conspiracy to martyr the Emperor, calculating that a dead and venerated Muad'Dib would only swell the religion's power. The leading instigators of the plot also included Princess Irulan, the Emperor's wife in name only, Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam of the Bene Gesserit, the Spacing Guild Steersman Edric, and Scytale, a Tleilaxu Face Dancer. When his complicity was discovered, Korba was killed by Stilgar.
