Dagr
Prince of Fjöturlund
Prince Dagr was the last surviving son of King Högni of Fjöturlund and the brother of the Valkyrie Sigrún. After King Helgi sacked his kingdom and slaughtered his family, Dagr avenged them by killing Helgi, only to be cursed by his grieving sister.
Prince Dagr was a son of King Högni and a prince of the Midgardian kingdom of Fjöturlund in Midgard. He was the brother of the Valkyrie Sigrún and the man who slew the Mad King Helgi, a deed that cost him his sister's curse.
The fall of Fjöturlund#
Dagr was raised in the Midgardian kingdom of Fjöturlund alongside his sister, Princess Sigrún, and their parents. In Sigrún's youth, the king Helgi offered his hand to her in marriage. Her father, King Högni, who knew of Helgi's true nature, refused to let him wed his daughter. Taking the refusal as a slight, Helgi answered with war, invading Fjöturlund to claim Sigrún by force. On the Mad King's orders his soldiers sacked the kingdom and killed all who opposed the union. Most of the royal family was slain, the parents among the dead, and only Prince Dagr survived.
The vengeance#
Fueled by rage and bound by honor, Dagr swore to avenge his family and to keep the Mad King away from his sister. In time he found Helgi in a place called Fjöturlund and ran him through with his spear, killing him and reclaiming his family's honor. Dagr then returned to Sigrún to tell her of the deed.
The curse#
Sigrún, who loved Helgi and did not yet know that he had massacred her kin, was stricken with grief at the news. In her sorrow she laid a powerful curse upon her own brother for the killing. Only afterward did she learn that the man she mourned had destroyed her family, and by then the curse was already spoken and could not be undone. By it Dagr was bound to a wretched fate, left to dwell in the woods, and he did not live to see his sister understand the truth.
