Geth Prime

Heavy Geth Command Platform

Geth Primes were the largest and most powerful geth infantry platforms, heavy units that served as command and control nodes on the battlefield. Sheathed in armor and heavy shielding, a Prime carried a punishing pulse weapon and a combat intelligence that sharpened the fire of every geth around it.

By Joe Garratt

Geth Primes were the heaviest of the geth infantry platforms, command units built to anchor and direct the synthetic forces around them. Larger and more powerful than any other geth foot platform, a Prime combined heavy armor, deep layers of shielding, and a punishing arsenal with a combat intelligence that made every nearby geth more dangerous. They were deployed wherever the geth needed both raw firepower and coordination, and they ranked among the most formidable synthetic opponents Commander Shepard ever faced.

Build and stature#

A Geth Prime towered over the battlefield at around twelve feet in height, the largest bipedal geth platform and far bigger than the troopers and even the Geth Juggernauts that fought alongside it. It was instantly recognizable by its imposing size and, in many forces, its pale armor. The platform was extraordinarily resilient, layering heavy armor over multiple levels of shielding, and it had no major weaknesses, shrugging off the biotic and tech effects that would cripple a lesser unit.

The Prime was the deadliest geth infantry platform in terms of firepower. It carried a heavy pulse weapon capable of sustained, highly damaging fire, and in later forms it could also deploy combat drones and turrets to control the ground around it. Because it carried no melee capability, a Prime preferred to hold a distance from its target, advancing or withdrawing to keep its weapons trained.

Command and control#

What set the Prime apart from other geth was its role as a command node. It housed a sophisticated combat intelligence, and the platforms operating near it benefited from its presence: their rate of fire, accuracy, and damage all increased while a Prime stood among them. In effect a single Prime raised the combat performance of an entire geth formation, transforming an ordinary engagement into a far more dangerous one. For this reason it was wise to neutralize or at least disrupt a Prime before turning attention to the smaller platforms it commanded.

Deployment#

Geth Primes were committed where the geth needed extra armor and firepower, serving both as elite soldiers and as the steadying core of a formation. They appeared in a number of significant geth actions, including the fighting on Ilos and on Virmire during the pursuit of the rogue Spectre Saren, and they remained among the most dangerous synthetic foes encountered in the conflicts that followed. Apart from the geth that spoke through dedicated intelligences, Prime units were among the very few individual platforms ever shown communicating directly with Shepard or other figures of note, a mark of the higher functions packed into so large a frame.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Geth Prime?
A Geth Prime was a heavy geth platform that acted as a command unit on the battlefield. Larger and more powerful than any other geth infantry platform, it carried heavy armor and shields, a damaging pulse weapon, and specialized abilities, and it coordinated the geth fighting around it.
How big is a Geth Prime?
A Geth Prime stood roughly twelve feet tall, the largest bipedal geth platform, towering over Geth Juggernauts and lesser troopers. Its great size and pale armor made it instantly recognizable.
What makes a Geth Prime a command unit?
A Prime housed a sophisticated combat intelligence that boosted the rate of fire, accuracy, and damage of the geth platforms near it. By raising the combat performance of an entire formation, a single Prime could turn an ordinary geth force into a far deadlier one.
Where did Shepard encounter Geth Primes?
Geth Primes were deployed where the geth needed extra armor and firepower. Commander Shepard fought them in places such as Ilos and Virmire during the hunt for Saren, and they remained among the most dangerous synthetic foes in later geth engagements.
