Prodromos

First Outpost on Eos

Prodromos was the first lasting outpost the Andromeda Initiative established in the Heleus Cluster, founded on the world of Eos after two earlier settlements failed. It became possible only once a Remnant terraforming vault was reset to drive back the radiation that had made the planet uninhabitable.

By Joe Garratt

Prodromos was the first officially successful outpost the Andromeda Initiative established in the Heleus Cluster, founded on the world of Eos. It came into being only through the work of the Pathfinder, who reset a Remnant terraforming vault that cleared much of the ambient radiation that had long made the planet uninhabitable. After two failed attempts to settle Eos, Prodromos gave the Initiative its first genuine foothold in the new galaxy.

A foothold won from a hostile world#

Two earlier efforts to settle Eos, Site 1: Promise and Site 2: Resilience, had both collapsed under the planet's hostile environment and the depredations of the marauding kett. For the third attempt the Pathfinder chose a colonization site in Fairwinds Basin, where high cliff walls partly shielded the ground from the deadly radiation that had blanketed the surface. The decisive change came when the Pathfinder reset a Remnant terraforming vault on Eos, an act that cleared significant amounts of the ambient radiation and at last made permanent settlement possible.

With the way prepared, Director of Colonial Affairs Foster Addison personally oversaw the founding, flying in with the appointed mayor, August Bradley, when the order to proceed was given. Because the Initiative's resources had reached a crisis point, the Pathfinder was given the choice of whether the new outpost would take on a scientific or a military role. The colonists settled on the name Prodromos by popular vote, choosing a Greek word meaning forerunner.

The settlement#

Prodromos was built around a lake and consisted of several single and double-story buildings together with shuttle landing pads, many of the structures fitted with water silos along their sides. A research center stood on the northwestern shore of the lake, a shop on the eastern side, and a forward station to the northeast, with a dedicated landing space for the Tempest set at the lake's northern end. As the Pathfinder opened new ground across the cluster, Prodromos began trading with the newly discovered factions and with the other outposts that were established in the Pathfinder's wake, growing from a precarious first attempt into a working colony.
