By Joe Garratt

Grace Ashcroft is the new protagonist of Resident Evil Requiem, released in February 2026, where she shares the lead with Leon S. Kennedy. She's an FBI intelligence analyst, the daughter of a murdered journalist, and the person a group of conspirators believe holds the key to Umbrella's final project. (Resident Evil Requiem)

Who is Grace Ashcroft?#

Grace is a desk analyst at the FBI, not a field agent, and Requiem drops her into an outbreak she has no training for. (Resident Evil Requiem)

She was never meant to be a hero in the usual Resident Evil sense. Her chapters play as slow, frightening survival horror, with Grace hiding, running and scraping by, while Leon's chapters are the action half. (Resident Evil Requiem)

Alyssa Ashcroft#

Grace's mother isn't new. Alyssa Ashcroft was one of the eight playable survivors of Resident Evil Outbreak, a reporter caught in the Raccoon City outbreak in 1998. Requiem brings her back as the investigative journalist who raised Grace, and who, years after Umbrella fell, recorded interviews with an elderly, regretful Spencer. (Resident Evil Outbreak; Resident Evil Requiem)

In 2018 Alyssa was murdered at the Wrenwood Hotel, near Raccoon City. Grace never learned why, and the answer only comes out late in the game, from a disc her mother left behind. (Resident Evil Requiem)

Back to Wrenwood (2026)#

Eight years later, Raccoon City survivors were turning up dead across the country. Grace was sent to inspect the latest body, found at the derelict Wrenwood Hotel. There she recovered her mother's disc, and was then taken by Victor Gideon, a former Umbrella scientist who had been searching for her. (Resident Evil Requiem)

Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center#

Grace woke strapped to a table in the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center, where Gideon had set up his base. She freed herself and was hunted by a giant mutant called the Girl, which only light could hold back. Leon, chasing Gideon, reached the centre, but the building was sealed and they were split up; he left her his revolver, the Requiem. (Resident Evil Requiem)

She found Emily, a blind girl held in the centre's cells, and the two got each other through the building and its basement. A helicopter escape went wrong and Emily was badly hurt. Grace destroyed the Girl by flooding her with daylight through a roof hatch. Then Emily mutated, and Leon shot her. Grace, devastated, left with Gideon and his patron Zeno of the Connections, who promised her answers. (Resident Evil Requiem)

ARK and Elpis#

In the ruins of the Raccoon City Police Department, Zeno told her Elpis was Spencer's ultimate weapon, hidden in ARK, a lab under the city. He also told her Emily was one of many clones of Grace, made in Spencer's experiments to move his mind into a new body, and that she was the one success. (Resident Evil Requiem)

In ARK, Grace finally played her mother's disc, with Alyssa's interviews with Spencer. It proved Zeno and Gideon wrong: Grace was not a clone and had nothing to do with the experiments. She was a foundling Spencer had taken in as a baby and entrusted to Alyssa near the end of his life. (Resident Evil Requiem)

At the terminal the question was "What does the creator desire?" The player chooses. Typing "Destruction" destroys Elpis, and in that ending Zeno kills Leon and Grace escapes alone. Typing "Hope" releases it. (Resident Evil Requiem)

In the Release Elpis ending, Zeno injected himself, thinking it was a weapon, and lost his enhanced abilities. Elpis was an antiviral that neutralises viral weapons. Grace used it to cure Leon. Gideon killed Zeno and mutated, Leon killed him, and the BSAA's Hound Wolf unit, sent by Chris Redfield, pulled them out. (Resident Evil Requiem)

What happens to Grace?#

In the Release Elpis ending, Emily was found alive at Rhodes Hill as the cocoon around her came apart. Grace cured her with Elpis and adopted her, and Sherry Birkin was cured too. The last scene has Grace back at her FBI desk, with a photo of her mother and one with Emily beside her. (Resident Evil Requiem)
