By Joe Garratt

Dr. Victor Gideon is the main villain of Resident Evil Requiem, a former Umbrella researcher who has spent decades chasing the last secret of Oswell E. Spencer. He kidnaps Grace Ashcroft because he believes she can open it, and he's the man Leon S. Kennedy hunts from Wrenwood to the ruins of Raccoon City. This page has full spoilers for Requiem. (Resident Evil Requiem)

Who is Victor Gideon?#

Gideon is a scientist from the old Umbrella who never let go of it. He worked for the company before Raccoon City and worshipped its founder, Spencer, as a visionary of human evolution. When Umbrella collapsed he avoided the authorities, and over the following years he took control of the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center outside Wrenwood, which gave him a hospital full of patients to experiment on in secret. (Resident Evil Requiem)

His money and protection came from the Connections. Their representative Zeno, a superhuman fighter with more than a passing resemblance to Albert Wesker, backed Gideon's work because both wanted the same thing. (Resident Evil Requiem)

Why does Gideon want Elpis?#

Elpis was Spencer's final project, sealed deep in the ARK lab beneath Raccoon City. Gideon was convinced it was Spencer's ultimate creation, a contagious virus that could control minds, and that opening it would finish the work his master started. He also believed that Grace was the key, the one success of Spencer's experiments to move his mind into a new body, and that girls held at Rhodes Hill such as Emily were failed copies. (Resident Evil Requiem)

He was wrong on both counts. Grace was a foundling Spencer had taken in as a baby and entrusted to her mother, Alyssa Ashcroft, and Elpis was an antiviral. (Resident Evil Requiem)

Wrenwood and Rhodes Hill#

In October 2026 Gideon was waiting for Grace at the derelict Wrenwood Hotel, where her mother had been murdered in 2018. He knocked her out and carried her away. When Leon spotted him in the street, Gideon fired t-Virus darts into passers-by to start a small outbreak and slipped away in the chaos. (Resident Evil Requiem)

At Rhodes Hill he left Grace strapped to a table. When Leon arrived, Gideon infected the centre's staff and patients and sealed the building, splitting Leon and Grace up, and toyed with both of them as they tried to get out. Files on his work also gave a name to the illness killing Leon and the other Raccoon City survivors: Raccoon City Syndrome, dormant t-Virus waking up decades later. (Resident Evil Requiem)

After Emily's apparent death broke Grace, Gideon and Zeno offered her answers about Elpis, and she left with them for Raccoon City. (Resident Evil Requiem)

The road into Raccoon City#

While Zeno took Grace to the ruins of the Raccoon City Police Department, Gideon turned his attention to Leon. He came after him on the way into the city, and Leon beat him and left him for dead. (Resident Evil Requiem)

What happens to Gideon in the ending?#

Requiem has two endings, decided by the password Grace enters at the Elpis terminal. (Resident Evil Requiem)

In the ending where Elpis is destroyed, Gideon never comes back. ARK destroys itself, Zeno kills Leon, Grace escapes alone, and there is no final boss. (Resident Evil Requiem)

In the ending where Elpis is released, Zeno injects himself with it and loses his powers. Gideon turns up alive, marvelling at Spencer's genius, and decides Elpis is a tool for throwing the world into chaos. He calls Zeno a cheap imitation and beheads him. He sets ARK to self-destruct, grows tentacles and fights Leon, whom Grace has just cured with Elpis. (Resident Evil Requiem)

Is Victor Gideon Nemesis?#

Not the original, but close. In the ending where Elpis is released, Gideon is revealed to carry a Nemesis strain, which explains how he keeps coming back. His final transformation is a deliberate echo of the last form of Nemesis in Resident Evil 3, down to the glowing weak points Leon has to shoot. Leon finishes him with the Requiem revolver and the monster melts away. (Resident Evil Requiem; Resident Evil 3)

Gideon is a new character, with no appearance before Requiem, but he's built from the series' past: an Umbrella loyalist, a Spencer disciple and a Nemesis all at once. (Resident Evil Requiem)
