Natalia Korda: the Girl Who Might Be Alex Wesker in Revelations 2
Natalia Korda is the young girl Barry Burton protects on Sein Island in Resident Evil: Revelations 2, and the body Alex Wesker chose for her own mind. Here's her story, what her powers are, and what each ending says about who she really is.
Natalia Korda is the little girl at the centre of Resident Evil: Revelations 2. Claire Redfield and Moira Burton find her hiding in a ruined fishing village; six months later she becomes Barry Burton's partner, guiding him across Sein Island with a strange sense for where the monsters are. She is also the body Alex Wesker picked for her own mind, and both endings leave open how much of Natalia is left. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Why Alex chose Natalia#
Natalia was caught up in the Terragrigia Panic as a small child, the bioterror attack that destroyed a floating city in 2004, and watched her parents die there. She remembers a man from TerraSave rescuing her when she was little. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Years later that same man, Neil Fisher, was working for Alex. His report to Alex's aide Stuart calls Natalia the most suitable vessel by far, in a different class from the other candidates, because she is incapable of feeling fear. After losing everyone in front of her, he writes, there was nothing left for her to be afraid of. Her age was the only drawback, and time would fix that. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Fear mattered because of Alex's research. Her notes say the new vessel had to be able to overcome fear, and that after the transfer the body needed six months, kept safe, before her mind would stabilise. The background to the Terragrigia attack is in the Revelations story. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Claire, Moira and the abduction#
Claire and Moira spotted Natalia in the village of Wossek, where she ran from them until Moira calmed her down. She stayed with the TerraSave survivors until an escape attempt in an old helicopter went wrong, and in the chaos someone carried her away. Moira's cry that they'd lost the girl was the last Claire saw of her on that trip. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Alex had her sealed in a pod in the tower and sent down into a bunker, believing that in six months Natalia would wake up as Alex. Then Alex shot herself and the tower began to self-destruct. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Natalia and Barry#
When Barry landed on the island six months later, the first person he met was Natalia. She had no memory of the procedure. She could sense where creatures were, including ones that couldn't be seen, and she could squeeze into places Barry couldn't and spot things he missed. He carried her on his back for long stretches, and on one of them told her about his daughter Polly's shooting accident and how he'd driven Moira away. He decided to protect Natalia the way he hadn't protected his own girls. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
In the tower they found a portrait of Albert Wesker beside a blonde woman. Natalia recognised her straight away. "That IS Wesker," she told Barry. "Alex Wesker." Then Alex herself appeared, mutated and hooded, and told Barry she had buried Moira. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
As they went on, Natalia started to know her way around places she'd never seen, as though she were remembering someone else's life. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Two Natalias and two Alexes#
The extra episode Little Miss shows the fight inside her. Natalia goes looking for her friend Lottie, a teddy bear, and meets a girl who looks exactly like her. "Oh, but I am you," the double says. Dark Natalia tries to lure her across the island and wear her down until she can take over, but Natalia refuses to give in, finds her way to the docks and meets Barry. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Alex, meanwhile, had survived her own gunshot and been left disfigured by her viruses. Her journal shows she couldn't bear the idea of another Alex waking in Natalia's body. She called the girl false and decided she had to die. When she finally caught Natalia in the quarry, she screamed that the girl wasn't changing, called her a failure and began strangling her, then let go and fled. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
The endings explained#
Good ending. In Alex's lair, after Alex injected herself with Uroboros, she caught Natalia again, and Moira, alive after six months on the island, shot her. Barry got the girls to a cliff, where Claire arrived by helicopter. Natalia and Moira climbed aboard while Barry and Claire finished Alex. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
The 2013 epilogue finds Natalia living with the Burtons. Claire is on her way over, taking a call about Chris being in China for the events of Resident Evil 6, and Moira calls up the stairs for Natalia to get ready. Upstairs, Natalia reads Kafka, Alex's favourite writer, aloud: "A cage went in search of a bird." She smiles in a way that isn't hers. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2; Resident Evil 6)
Bad ending. Moira never made it out of the tower. Alex crushed Natalia until she blacked out. Then Natalia woke, cut off Alex's hand and tore out her heart. When Barry asked what was happening, she answered: "Now you can call me... Alex." Barry couldn't bring himself to shoot her. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Read together, the endings say the transfer worked at least in part. What Natalia grows into has never been followed up in a later game. The full plot is in the Revelations 2 story guide. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
