Moira Burton: Barry's Daughter in Resident Evil: Revelations 2
Moira Burton is Barry Burton's elder daughter and Claire Redfield's partner in Resident Evil: Revelations 2. Here's why she won't touch a gun, what happened to her on the island, whether she survives, and how she and Barry made peace.
Moira Burton is the elder daughter of Barry Burton and one of the four playable characters in Resident Evil: Revelations 2. She works for TerraSave with Claire Redfield, and in 2011 the two of them are kidnapped and dumped on a prison island run by Alex Wesker. Moira spends the first half of the game refusing to touch a gun, and the choice to finally pick one up decides whether she lives. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Who Moira Burton is#
Moira is Barry and Kathy Burton's elder daughter, and older sister to Polly. Barry was a member of S.T.A.R.S. in Raccoon City, and an old friend of Chris Redfield, which is how Moira came to know Claire. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
She's loud, sarcastic and swears constantly, which is a running joke through the game. Under that, she's a young woman who has never been in danger and isn't sure she can handle it. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Why Moira won't use a gun#
Years before the game, Moira and Polly were playing at home when Moira found one of Barry's guns. It went off in her hands and hit Polly. Polly survived, but Barry's reaction in the moment left a wound of its own. Moira blamed herself, felt blamed by him, and refused to handle a gun again. By 2011 she called her father Barry rather than Dad, and they barely spoke. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
That's why, in her chapters, Moira carries a torch and a crowbar. She lights the way and stuns enemies while Claire does the shooting, and she says outright that she won't hold a gun. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
The island#
Moira had just joined TerraSave, the non-governmental group Claire worked for. Armed men stormed the welcome party, and Moira woke up in a cell in an abandoned prison with a bracelet locked to her wrist. The bracelets measured fear. The island's owner, Alex Wesker, was testing a virus called t-Phobos that only activated when its host was afraid, and every captive was a test subject. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Claire and Moira worked their way out of the prison together and sent a distress call from the radio tower. They met other TerraSave captives in a fishing village, including their colleague Neil Fisher, and Moira calmed a frightened young girl who gave her name as Natalia Korda. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
The turning point came in the tower. Neil had been working with Alex, and she betrayed him by injecting him with Uroboros. He mutated and attacked Claire and Moira. If Moira found the nerve to pick up a gun and kill him, she broke the fear that had ruled her since childhood. If Claire killed him instead, Moira never got past it. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Higher up, Alex shot herself in front of them, and the tower began to self-destruct. Claire got out. Moira was trapped under falling debris, and Claire left the island believing she was dead. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Six months with Evgeny#
The extra episode The Struggle shows what happened next, in the version where Moira survived. An old islander, Evgeny Rebic, pulled her from the rubble. He'd lived alone through the outbreak, he was gruff and suspicious, and he let her stay only if she followed his rules and hunted with him. He also told her to wash her mouth out. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Over the months they became something close to family. When food ran short they raided the village and found a list of islanders sent to the mines for Alex's experiments. One name was Evgeny's daughter, Irina. They found her last letter, and Evgeny, sick and grieving, shut himself away to die. Before he did, they finally told each other their names. Moira went on alone, determined not to put her own father through what Evgeny had suffered. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
Moira and Barry#
Moira's distress call finally reached Barry six months after she'd sent it, and he went to the island on his own to find her. Alex, alive and mutated, told him she'd killed Moira. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
In the good ending, Moira walked in just as Alex was about to kill Natalia, and shot her. Barry, stunned to see her alive, got both girls to a cliff edge, where Claire arrived by helicopter. Moira and Natalia climbed aboard while Barry held Alex off, and at his call Claire finished her with a rocket launcher. On the way home, father and daughter made peace. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
The epilogue, set in 2013, shows the Burtons at home with Natalia now part of the family, as Claire arrives with a present and news that Chris is heading to China, where Resident Evil 6 takes place. Moira is there, hurrying everyone along. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2; Resident Evil 6)
In the bad ending, where Moira never picked up the gun, she died in the tower's collapse and Barry's search ends without her. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
The full plot, both endings and the extra episodes are covered in the Revelations 2 story. Revelations 2 is Moira's only game as a playable character so far. (Resident Evil: Revelations 2)
