Annihilators
the 22nd Marine Division
The Annihilators, officially the 22nd Confederate and later Dominion Marine Division, were a small ground-based special forces unit famed for the highest zerg kill rate in the terran armed forces. They served first the Confederacy and then the Terran Dominion.
The Annihilators, officially designated the 22nd Confederate Marine Division and later the 22nd Dominion Marine Division, were a ground-based special forces group of the Terran Confederacy and afterward the Terran Dominion. Despite the title of division, the unit numbered exactly twenty-two members.
The Great War#
Renowned for their lethal efficiency, the Annihilators were deployed as special forces against the zerg during the Swarm's invasion of the Koprulu sector. They held the highest success rate of any unit in the Confederate armed forces, a record they maintained even after the Confederacy was destroyed, but they were too small a group to stem the tide of the zerg alone.
Rather than defending Tarsonis against the Sons of Korhal, the Annihilators were redirected by Ghost Program Director Ilsa Killiany to retrieve the powerful telekinetic Nova Terra, who was held prisoner by the crime lord Fagin. The unit was placed under the command of wrangler agent Malcolm Kelerchian, whose sense of humanity irritated their leader, Esmerelda Ndoci. When the Sons of Korhal broke through the Confederate defenses, Ndoci ordered an immediate assault on Fagin's headquarters; the building was brought down by the Annihilators' excessive firepower, but the unit escaped with Nova and a severely wounded Kelerchian.
Service to the Dominion#
After the fall of the Confederacy the Annihilators joined the Terran Dominion. They were too valuable for Emperor Arcturus Mengsk to discard, boasting the best zerg kill rate of all marine divisions, even though Ndoci hated the former Sons of Korhal she now served. In 2503, when the Koprulu Liberation Front seized a munitions factory on New Sydney, the Annihilators were deployed to retake it, only to find that Nova had already achieved victory before their arrival. Ndoci was later killed in a transport accident, and command of the unit passed to Captain Spaulding, who was promoted to major. The division was afterward assigned to assist ghost Kath Toom in investigating a United Earth Directorate terrorist cell on Altara.
